i have been videoconferencing using skype for about a month now. All of a sudden my camera mic stopped picking my voice. i thought that the device has gone faulty and acordingly purchased a new mic. however, it is also not working. i then checked from the windows sound recorder if my voice is getting recorded through the mic and found that no recording is taking place. i checked for the functioning of the sound card using an utility and found that it is working fine. i don't understand what's the problem. any suggestions?

okay. so i have a general idea of how to fix this problem, but none of the solutions people post are working. i go into control panel -> sounds and audio devices -> voice tab -> advanced voice playback -> options -> properties -> and when it says adjust volume for playback there's no microphone in the list below. from what i understand, there should be a box with microphone next to it that i should check in order to adjust the microphone volume, etc. would i be right in assuming that since there is not this option, that it is the microphone that is not working?

In order to use another microphone other than the built in microphone on a Logitech web camera, you will need to configure the new microphone to be your system's default microphone.

To change the default microphone in Windows:

  1. Click "Start," "Settings," and "Control Panel."
  2. Open the applet that corresponds to your operating system.
    1. Windows 98 users, double click on "Multimedia."
    2. Windows Me and Windows 2000 users, double click on "Sounds and Multimedia."
    3. Windows XP users, double click on "Sound and Audio Devices"
  3. Click the Audio tab.
  4. Set the microphone to the sound card in the drop down box that is appropriate for your operating system.
    1. Windows 98 and Me users, click on the Preferred Device for Recording box.
    2. Windows XP and Windows 2000, click on the Default Device box under Sound Recording.
If you are using the built in mic, open the Quickcam 11.5 software and adjust Audio Settings.
The Audio Settings provide access to device selection, basic audio levels, and AEC.
  • Select Microphone– Allows you to select desired microphone for video calling and video recording applications.
  • Volume indicator – Indicates the current input volume level..
  • Adjust Recording Volume – Toggles input volume level.
  • Cancel Echo – Enables or disables AEC for RightLight and RightLight 2 supported cameras.
  • Select Speakers – Allows you to select desired speaker source for video calling and recording applications.
  • Audio Tuning Wizard – Launches the Audio Tuning Wizard
If all this fails, it could indicate a problem with your soundcard. Try using some speakers or another mic and see if they work. If they don't, you card is faulty. Remenber to set up your mic in the volume properties. On the lower right hand of the screen, you should see a volume icon. Right click and select open volume control. Select Options and the Properties. Select Recording and check all boxes below. Close that window and now make sure Mic level is max and not muted.

Hope that helps!

I have just brought a Logitec Webcam C120 and cannot get any sound. Do I have to get a microphone? When I do the sound test can't get any recording back.

Hi lynne_law ,

Many people mistakenly think that webcam can be used for audio as well as video transmission.

  1. Webcams don't usually come with microphones , therefore you would require a separate microphone for your voice recordings and voice chats.
  2. I would suggest you get a headset which would have the microphone option as well , or you can get a hand held mic.
  3. Once you get a new mic, you need to connect it to your computer by plugging in the mic in the appropriate slot , and by default the mic should work.
  4. If it does not work , you just need to change the microphone settings using the volume control option or audio settings via control panel.
Hope this helps ... ) Your feedback would be appreciated.

IM PLus # 3500 Series Mic works one day but not the next. Video is fine, but mic isn't. I've looked at all the settings but the mic doesn't pick up my voice.

Several possibilities:

1. You may have inadvertently muted your microphone.

2. You may have multiple devices identified as the microphone, so that might be causing a conflict.

Multiple ways these might be fixed:
1. If you have a media-controller keyboard, look for a mute / unmute button there to see if that helps.

2. Alternately, open the Control Panel and open up the Sounds category. Navigate to the Recording tab and ensure you have identified the proper device.

3. Ensure your volume control utility for Recording has not checked Mute on the microphone.

Guessing you are using Microsoft product. Open the Control Panel

How can I find out whether the microphone on my Pro9000 works or not?

Depends how its stopped working, its pretty much impossible for it to physically .. stop working. this is more often than not a software/driver issue.

first of all check your mic isnt muted, double click the speaker icon in the bottom right of your screen, or select audio options from control panel, then find your microphone and see if its muted or the volume bar for the microphone is lowered.

second of all, open my computer/file/properties/hardware/device manager, click the name of your computer, this should be on the top of the list, then another box should appear just below the 'file, action, view, help' list. if you leave your mouse highlited over this it should say 'scan for hardware changes' click on it.

now, 1 of 2 thing will happen here

either -1- you will get a message come up where you will need to install the driver to the device (microphone). get your cd which came with the microphone and follow the steps.

or -2- you will find nothing comes up, in this case the camera may be installed properly, but the microphone driver may have became corrupt, in this case look down the list for a icon with a little '?' over it, double click it and select reinstall driver.

now after that you should be ready to go :)

hope my first good feedback comes from you :)

5. click ok after checking the box

Mic has quit working on Quickcam Pro 5000

Did you by chance mute it in the computers sound manager or a specific program (msn, yahoo)? These settings tend to over-ride the Logitech console settings.

Logitech Quickcam Microphone not working

on the right hand side of your task bar near the time, you will see a speaker icon, right click on it and open volume control. When the window pops up on the far right should be the mic controls, check that it's not muted. If the mic controls do not show then click options at top menu then advanced and the mic slider controls will now show up.

Problem

Microphones do not require software or drivers to operate. First, double click on the volume icon located in the system tray. If you do not see the volume control for Mic, then you will need to make it show up by going to Options --> Properties --> Check the box labeled Microphone --> Click Ok. You should now be able to see the volume control for the Mic. Make sure that this is not muted and the sound is turned up. Second, you must have a sound card installed in your computer that supports microphones. Please check with your cards manufacturer or PC manufacturer to make sure.
