i have been videoconferencing using skype for about a month now. All of a sudden my camera mic stopped picking my voice. i thought that the device has gone faulty and acordingly purchased a new mic. however, it is also not working. i then checked from the windows sound recorder if my voice is getting recorded through the mic and found that no recording is taking place. i checked for the functioning of the sound card using an utility and found that it is working fine. i don't understand what's the problem. any suggestions?

okay. so i have a general idea of how to fix this problem, but none of the solutions people post are working. i go into control panel -> sounds and audio devices -> voice tab -> advanced voice playback -> options -> properties -> and when it says adjust volume for playback there's no microphone in the list below. from what i understand, there should be a box with microphone next to it that i should check in order to adjust the microphone volume, etc. would i be right in assuming that since there is not this option, that it is the microphone that is not working?

In order to use another microphone other than the built in microphone on a Logitech web camera, you will need to configure the new microphone to be your system's default microphone.

To change the default microphone in Windows:

  1. Click "Start," "Settings," and "Control Panel."
  2. Open the applet that corresponds to your operating system.
    1. Windows 98 users, double click on "Multimedia."
    2. Windows Me and Windows 2000 users, double click on "Sounds and Multimedia."
    3. Windows XP users, double click on "Sound and Audio Devices"
  3. Click the Audio tab.
  4. Set the microphone to the sound card in the drop down box that is appropriate for your operating system.
    1. Windows 98 and Me users, click on the Preferred Device for Recording box.
    2. Windows XP and Windows 2000, click on the Default Device box under Sound Recording.
If you are using the built in mic, open the Quickcam 11.5 software and adjust Audio Settings.
The Audio Settings provide access to device selection, basic audio levels, and AEC.
  • Select Microphone– Allows you to select desired microphone for video calling and video recording applications.
  • Volume indicator – Indicates the current input volume level..
  • Adjust Recording Volume – Toggles input volume level.
  • Cancel Echo – Enables or disables AEC for RightLight and RightLight 2 supported cameras.
  • Select Speakers – Allows you to select desired speaker source for video calling and recording applications.
  • Audio Tuning Wizard – Launches the Audio Tuning Wizard
If all this fails, it could indicate a problem with your soundcard. Try using some speakers or another mic and see if they work. If they don't, you card is faulty. Remenber to set up your mic in the volume properties. On the lower right hand of the screen, you should see a volume icon. Right click and select open volume control. Select Options and the Properties. Select Recording and check all boxes below. Close that window and now make sure Mic level is max and not muted.

Hope that helps!

Hi, I recently reformatted my hard drive and installed Windows 7. Before that, I had windows vista and my mic worked fine. Now, windows 7 picks up the mic and says it's enabled and it's not muted,...

Check the web-site of the manufacturer of the computer (and the motherboard) to see if they have updated device-drivers for Windows 7.

Are you sure that you've plugged the microphone into the 'pink' ("microphone-in") socket?

Open the "sound-mixer" application, and check that the "microphone-in" is not muted,
and that the slider is pushed to the maximum level.

Try a different microphone.

Hi. Try to check the settings of your skype account especially for the microphone. You may try using other microphones also just to check if the port is working or the mic that you are currently using is working also.

Mic Echoes

Echo is caused by a number of variables. Are you in a large room with mic extended away from you? Mic too far away will create echo. Also try turning down the gain for the mic

IM PLus # 3500 Series Mic works one day but not the next. Video is fine, but mic isn't. I've looked at all the settings but the mic doesn't pick up my voice.

Several possibilities:

1. You may have inadvertently muted your microphone.

2. You may have multiple devices identified as the microphone, so that might be causing a conflict.

Multiple ways these might be fixed:
1. If you have a media-controller keyboard, look for a mute / unmute button there to see if that helps.

2. Alternately, open the Control Panel and open up the Sounds category. Navigate to the Recording tab and ensure you have identified the proper device.

3. Ensure your volume control utility for Recording has not checked Mute on the microphone.

Guessing you are using Microsoft product. Open the Control Panel

Acer Aspire internal mic won't work.

You need to check the record settings and make sure the mic is not muted or turned down to low. Click START, CONTROL PANEL, then SOUND icon. Click the AUDIO tab up top. Make sure that your sound card is selected in the drop down menu under Sound Recording. Now click VOLUME tab. A new window will open up. Click OPTIONS then PROPERTIES. Make sure you have a check by the MIC and click OK. In the Recording Control window, turn the level up for Microphone and make sure it is not muted. Let me know what happens.

Make sure you have not started your WEB cam.
Start Skype then click on Tools - then Options - Audio Settings then select your Microphone.
Then click on Video settings - then select your webcam, your image should now appear.
Select your Receive and Show video options - suggest you use
Only people in my contact list
Click SAVE (your settings)
To add people to your Contact list - Click on Contacts (at the top) - then New Contact and follow the instructions.
You can also test your Skype by click on Echo / Sound Test Service.

If you still have problems, get back to me.
Have fun

Microphone

dear mil20, this could be because of multiple reasons:

a) You've muted your mic from the speaker icon in task bar.
b) Maybe your sound driver is not installed correctly, can you play music in your system ?
c) You can check your microphone settings in control panel to ensure you've actually enabled microphone options. Also see if you've set default voice instrument speakers or headphone. Finally see if you've plugged the mic right.

d) If none of that helps you might like to take your mic and system to nearest hardware store to ensure nothings wrong with your hardware.

If that was helpful please press 'fixya'
