If you have a Wireless Modem then you can buy a Wireless Dongle or Card for your P.C., or use a friends internet and download drivers etc.. on theirs and copy to disk or memory stick etc...

Cannot connect a pc to internet

Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "CompaqSupport" or "hp support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the drivers.Try downloading the Network Drivers, LAN Drivers, Chipset drivers. The ethernet controller will probably be solved with one of them. You can also try Driver Guidehttp://www.driverguide.com

My computer doesn't have its pci.sys,#512;Ethernet Controller installed and i can't connect to the internet to update it what do i do?

You will not be able to connect to the internet without the ethernet driver.
To update the driver manually refer to the steps below:
- click start > run then type "devmgmt.msc" - once device manager is open look for network adapters - click the plus sign at the left side then right click on the driver then select update driver online. - it will look for a compatible driver for your LAN card.

hope this helps.

I have an old IBM t60 Thinkpad I am trying to (clean) install XP home edition. The OS is installed but I have no internet connection. I am missing drivers for Network controller, PCI device, SM Bus...

You can try to use an Ubuntu 10.10 CD, and when you are done with the install you will have access to the web without needing any drivers.
Then go to the web and download your XP drivers if you still need to.
Would recommend you use Ubuntu as it is much better OS than XP and runs great on T60 very solid.

Ethernet controller and USB are missing on XP

Yes, the device-drivers can be downloaded from the Internet, to one computer, and then burned onto a CD-writable, or written to a USB memory-stick, and then the files can be physically moved to the other computer.

But, "which" device-drivers is completely dependent on which computer that you have. Some motherboards have "integrated" network-adapters and "integrated" USB-ports.

Easiest solution is to take an add-in PCI network-adapter card, and install it, and connect the Ethernet cable to its socket.
Hopefully, Windows will recognize that card, and automatically load the correct device-drivers from the C: drive, i.e., without Internet access.
Or, if you buy an add-in card, it may come with a CD-ROM that contains the device-driver.

Once the device-drivers have been installed, you will have Internet connectivity. Access: http://WindowsUpdate.Microsoft.com
and click "Custom" scan, and then click "Optional Hardware".
Windows Update should find the device-drivers for your motherboard, and install them. Then, you can remove the add-in card, and connect the Ethernet cable to the "on-mother-board" network socket.

I like to download ethernet controller driver but not from driver detective as this require an internet connection to complete what i want to do.

you nedd to go to a website and download an updated ethernet controller driver are useless because you can't even access the internet without the ethernet controller, unless you have a second PC already hooked up to work with the internet, then make a copy of the ethernet driver, and then copy it onto the original PC to get it acces the intenet. Most people may have to go to a computer repair store and ask if they can buy the ethernet controller driver for their OS and PC on a CD or flashdrive, or instead, but an external Ehternet controller device and connect it to your PC via USB.
