GE rf modulator cat number AV 20182

This modulator just stopped working. Do they "burn out"? Is there anything I can do to test it or fix it? Or do I just replace it?

Sounds like you are getting RF feedback... this is because it is a lower quality RF Modulator. You could try to get some "Ferrite" "Rings" or Snap on "Blocks" and put the around the cables to mitigate this, or you could try somehow making sure all the earths are good. Reorientate the RF box further away,, even try wrapping it in Aluminium Foil.

My RF-modulator works when I use a short coaxial cable but will not work on longer runs. Why?

RF modulators are intended for short runs. There is too much signal loss for a long run

How to install DVD player on GE Model 19GT270 TV

To hook a DVD player to this model, you'll need an RF modulator (also called an RF converter). You can find one at most retailers where they sell TVs, and also online from places like Amazon.com.

Without the AV jacks, the only way the TV can pick up anything is with its tuner. An RF converter takes the audio and video signals from the DVD player and turns them into a channel 3 or 4 signal that the set can tune in. Unfortunately this does reduce the picture quality some, but on older TV sets it's the only option.

On the Dynex? - RF Modulator AV Signal Converter, the RCA plugs on the back, are they input or output?

Input. The intent is to convert Composite Video, S-video and audio from newer devices to old TV's that only have RF (antenna) inputs.

I'm trying to hookup my Toshiba DR430KU to an older tv that require an RF Modulator. I get a skewded sideways picture. Does This DVDR compatable with a RF Modulator?

Probably not. Better picture results are achieved with either S-Video, standard RCA AV cable (yellow-white-red), or YUV component cable (red-green-blue) (component output does not have audio - this requires extra cable to be connected). The video via either one of these 'AV' connections is stunning (based on a standard 16:9 LCD TV using a Panasonic DVD recorder).

RF tends to be lower quality - as opposed to AV/digital input. AV input/YUV component handles digital better. No one connects their DVD devices to their TV via RF (either directly to the antenna socket or with a modulator/attenuator) anyway. Because a VCR is mostly analogue, it will work fine with an RF connection, but DVD is digital, and so won't work as well, if at all.

RF also goes through the tuner in a TV, creating cross-interference, whereas AV is a direct input and is separate to the tuner.

I would say an RF modulator would not be designed to handle the output frequency that your DVD device generates. Throw the modulator out, or perhaps get another TV, or use RCA cables instead if the TV has AV inputs. Whichever is cheaper and easier, but don't use RF accessories except a standard antenna if/as required.

Connect magnavox dvd to ge tv HELP!

You need to go get an RF modulator. They can be purchased at Radio Shack or a number of other electronic shoppes for a reasonable price.

The RF modulator connects to the coax cable connector and it has inputs for the RCA connectors.

Cheers ... Best wishes

No picture on VCR/DVD

Try to use AV cables they work better than RF cables in my opinion. AV out to TV in works everytime.

The cable input on the tv

The only thing you can use to utilize the AV connector is to use a cable box or with AV ouputs.
