Can I use a regular 2 conductor cord set on a ceiling track lighting kit and plug it into the wall? I Dont have a box in the ceiling

Yes, but make sure to use a polarized male plug ( the one with the slightly larger prong on one side).

1. If you have already plugged in the power cord, unplug and re-plug into another electrical wall
outlet. This may reset the Standby mode.
2. Add water to the water tank and press the On/Standby button to select a steam setting.

How to repair


A wire might have come loose inside the Vacuum head.

Note: Electricity can cause serious injury even Death.
Isolate your power supply from the mains switchboard.
Switch off and Unplug your appliance from the wall socket before attempting any repairs.

Remove/Dismantle the Vacuum head and locate the wires.
Check the wires at the terminals and at pinch points

Check your power cord and power supply, check the plug is clean and free from corrosion or dirt.
Plug another appliance into the same socket to check there is power at the socket.

If its still under warranty, take it back to the store or manufacturer for replacement.
Call a serviceman to test the appliance for you,

If not you could...
Check your fuse in the device, you will have to dismantle the appliance. Some of them have a fuse to protect the motor.

Get your Multimeter and do some tests...
Test the flexible cord connections
Electrical tests included, visual inspection, Earth continuity, Polarity and Insulation resistance.

Examining cord for Damage
Disconnect flexible cord from power supply.
Check cord along the whole length for obvious damage

1: Visual Inspection
A visual test is necessary before using test instruments to ensure that all specific safety requirements are meet.
Check the general condition and safety of the cord, plug, cord anchorage, terminations and of the appliance itself.

2: Earth Continuity.

I have a ceiling fan with 3 lights. We do not use the remote control and did not install it. The lights stopped going on today. The fan works, but the lights do not. I have tried changing bulbs, but...


Sounds like a loose wire. If you turn the lights on via a wall switch or a pull chain, I would start where you hooked the wire for the lights to the house electricity, most likely where the fan meets the ceiling. Pull the "bell" part of the fan down that covers the ceiling box and see if there is a loose wire inside. There should be a plastic cap called a wire nut that covers the wire connection. Make sure it is secure and if possible, put some electrical tape around it. Please let me know if you have questions.

Hoover wiring


hello lukeplayer,
Based on your description, ( first disconnect the plug from the wall recptacle).You will need to open up the Hoover Vacuum Body to gaion access to the internal wiring. In order to better assist you, please provide me with the specific hoover model. In general though, you will need to see where inside the Hoover that wire became detached and then rerun it. Since your cord is already broken, you may be able to strip back more of the outer cord insulation to expose the internal conductors and then route, cut to fit and reinstall them. Hope that helps.. It sounds to me like the power cord has a short. To test your power cord you need a multimeter. Test continuity threw the power cord, from the male plug prongs, to the wiring inside the vacuum. You should get continuity from one prong on the male plug to only one wire on the other end of the power cord. If you test one prong but get a readying on 2 wires, then it is crossed. If you dont get any continuity on one or more of the wires, you have a short. A common place for a short in the cord is the male plug, you can find a replacement male plug at a hardware store and cut off the old one. When wiring the male plug, black wire goes to the gold post, white wire goes to silver, and green wire goes to the green post.

If your carbon brushes on the motor are warn, then that could cause the motor to stop, but other parts of the vacuum should still work so I dont think it is that.
