My WS-65315 is almost 3 years old and never had a problem. Last night it shut itself off and now everytime you turn it on, it shuts itself off within about 3 seconds. The screen never comes up so I do not know if it says anything.
Slinteriors, i was reading about how you said press input and menu and see if it (LED) blinks twice... i have same problem as the guy above, i tried what you said and it did blink twice, what does that mean?

a code will always read 12-normal if you just plugged the tv in. it has to try to turn on then shut itself down to log a code. Or shutdown is caused by something the tv cannot detect . Or a front panel button has failed- does the green light turn on for a second when you hit the power button on the remote? if not try unplugging the front keypad behind the speaker cover.
This unit will not indicate any problem without you doing something to initiate the LED diagnostic feature. Go to the front of the set and hit the power button, when that doesn't work hold the MENU and INPUT buttons on the set at the same time for 10 seconds. The power LED should start blinking a two sequence code that will repeat six times. The number of blinks will tell the general area of the problem. As an example a 2 - 2 sequence is a convergence output problem over 95% of the time.
try accessing the self diagnosis feature by pressing both the menu and device/input button in together on the front of the set and hold for 6 seconds to see if the led will blink a two digit code such as two blinks slight pause then another series of blinks to indicate the second number then let me know the code and I will assist you.
Code 22 indicates that your set is in shut down due to what is called Short Protect. The most likely cause is the Converge Ic's drawing too much current and opening one or 2 fuses. Normal repair cost varies by area and servicer. Expect 250 to 350 plus the service call. I normally do this on site.
Don't feel bad about Mits. All the projection companies and all
the new TVs have markedly poorer reliability than the good old CRT
types. You should see all the class action lawsuits against even
some of the best companies!
The power supply section is not working.
Common possibilities are:
- Convergences amps have failed overloading the supply
- High-voltage section (flyback transformer) has failed
(happens sooner or later, about 8 years typical))
- CRT tube has failed overloading the supply
- Power surge has popped the power input circuit.
(Fuse, rectifier diodes, turn-on relay etc)
- One of a hundred of electrolytic capacitors has failed
short overloading the supply. They dry
out with age, are cheap to replace, but hard to find which one it is.
- Or any of many other possibilities.
In short, you need a experianced tech to troubleshoot this.
I just took my Mitsubishi WS-65315 65" in to be repaired for the same problem and was told that it needed a new main circuit board part number 930b899005 as was told they wanted to charge me $1100.00. So I told them not to do the repair and picked up my tv and found that same part at Sears parts for only $225.00. Some of these TV repair places are theifs.
