DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter are two programs that can be used to backup DVDs.
DVD Shrink reduces dual-layer DVDs in size so that they fit on single, blank DVD media.
DVD Decrypter is used to burn that file to disc after the video has been authored in DVD Shrink.
Open DVD Shrink, click "Full Disc" on the toolbar, then insert your DVD into the disc drive.
Click "Open Disc," then select the DVD drive, and click "OK."
Click "Main Movie," then remove any "Audio" or "Subpicture" (subtitle) streams that you don't need by disabling the tick boxes.

Click the "Extras," and decide if you want to remove any.
If you do, set the "Video" drop-down menu to "Still Image."
Click "Backup" then select "Create an ISO image" from the "Select backup target" drop-down menu.
Select "Browse" and then choose a temporary location for your ISO image to be stored.
Click "Quality Settings," and make sure "Compress video with high..." is selected.
Click "OK." Close DVD Shrink when the ISO image has been created.
Open DVD Decrypter, click "Mode," then "ISO," then "Write W."
Click the folder icon and locate the ISO created with DVD Shrink. Insert a blank DVD, and then click the burn button in the bottom-left.
You will now have backed up your home movie DVD.

Why wont my emachine desktop burn data onto a dvd disk

First check whether you have a DVD writer or not.
1)If you drive is a DVD writer a DVD-RW will be written on top of the drive otherwise it is not a dvd writer...so obviously it will not write a DVD.
2) If the drive is a DVD-RW then you need a burning software to burn diske. Please download any valid burning softwares from the interne such as 'Nero' or 'Power iso' and install the same in your pc to burn dvd.

If you feel that, my answers have helped you getting solution to your problems then please give a vote.

Thanks.

Wont accept any dvd r discs when i try to format just says theres a problem with the media ive got nero 8 and windows and roxio and none of them will burn a dvd or except them

if you are using a blank dvd you don't have to format it first, once you format it blank you can no longer make use of it, make sure if you are trying to format a dvd its a dvd rw, but it its a dvd r just go straight on burning the files.

Using Windows XP. Want to copy vidoe from Media

Is the drive you are using a DVD writer or only a DVD reader? The drive that writes to RW disks is labeled DVD/RW or DVD Recordable.
These are the only drive types that will read and write a DVD/RW disc.

When I try to burn a CD, the system keeps telling me to insert a blank CD even though there is one in the drive. I have tried different blank CD's, same thing. However, it does read blank DVD's and CD's...

Sometimes, certain drives have problems writing on certain brands. Also, some drives have problems writing on dvd rw. If you try using others and it doesnt work, then your drive needs to be replaced.

My DVD drive (NEC DVD -RW ND3530A) on my PC wont burn onto some new phillips blank DVD-R i bought today, get the message; illegal requset, cannot write medium, incompatible format. Do i Need to download...

That drive has some problems with DVD-R media, apparently. A firmware update from Fujitsu may or may not help.

See here:
http://www.chetnet.co.uk/portal/forum/showthread.php?t=5791

You may be better off buying DVD+R media if possible.
