I have a 600315.331 that has blown two start capacitors. Before capacitor burns out compressor sounds like laboring when cycling

Thank you for your response. The r22 system has never been opened, evacuated or recharged. The a/c works great until I hear the compressor cycling on and off rapidly and trying stay engaged. A loud thumping noise is heard from the compressor when this occurs I do not understand why you recommend rewinding the motors.

The capacitors blew because the current that passed thru them was way higher than what was supposed to be. This can either be caused by a failing compressor motor or by a contaminated coolant circuit. If the circuit has leaked and air has got into it then the compressor will have an extremely difficult job trying to compress it. Have the circuit checked for leaks immediately and don't use it until you know for sure it's ok.

I would have the motors rewound ,replace the capicitors ,also check the gas ,use a special machine to empty the circuit ,and weigh the gas coming out ,then vacumn and refill to the correct weight of gas for this machine ,if too much gas is in the circuit then this will cause the compressor to labour big time ,and i know you can buy these cans of gas in america which you cannot in europe ,and you could have re gassed and overfilled it

80 mfd capacitior burned after 24 hour the compressor model areNL 6 1Ft 105 G what possible problem

The capacitor is there to assist the compressor under start-up There is no switch that turns it on and off. compressor's uses a lot of power (AMPS) under start up so the capacitor (a device that that stores a charge) boosts the voltage to the compressor to assist it. in this case your compressor is 115v and your start capacitor boosts it to 125v. Sometimes if you have a bad compressor it can cause a capacitor to blow but rarely because all it does is store a charge and a bad compressor using allot of amps would drain the capacitor of its charge.

Sounds like they did all that could be done. As long as they installed the right capacitor I will agree with this diagnosis to install a new unit. I don't know what you mean by "unit". 1900.00 seems a little low for a condenser and a little high for a compressor. But that is just me.

The switch for the starting winding probably has failed shut drawing current through capacitor and the winding even though unit has started. There is usually a centrifugal actuaated switch with contacts that open when motor is near full speed.

THE COMPRESSOR IS CYCLING EVERY FEW SECONDS IT HAS NOT DONE THAT BEFORE LIKE HMMMMM HMMMM HMMMM

Sounds as though the compressor is trying to start, and then shuts off, then tries again. If this is the case...

Usually this results when the capacitor has gone bad and the compressor is unable to start or break free to run.

Basically a capacitor gives the compressor a "Bump" to allow the pistons to break-away from the stopped position. Once the compressor is operational, the capacitor circuit is dropped and the compressor functions as expected. When the capacitor goes bad, the pistons cannot move and the compressor over-amps and the internal, or external OL (overload) opens due to high amp draw. When the OL cools down it allows the compressor to try to start again. But as it cannot it will make a loud humming noise as if it were locked up.

Which brings me to my second solution.... the compressor is locked up mechanically. And the pistons have siezed or welded themselves stationary. If this is the case, and the capacitor checks out good, then the compressor will need to be replaced.

FOR QUESTION 1: They do run independantly. What will happen when your compressor is running but your outdoor fan does not, the pressures in the system will go really high and compressor will overload. That outdoor fan is used to disipate all the heat that is transferred from the inside to the outdoor unit.
FOR QUESTION 2: If you hear humming it can be 2 things. FIrst one is that that capacitor went bad. Dependiing if its a dual run capacitor(which helps both compressor and fan motor) or they both have individual capacitors. The second would be a bad fan motor. OPen your service panel outside to the AC. Find your capacitor for you fan motor. if there are 2 , locate the one that goes to your fan motor. Check it out(if its blown physically youll will notice it like really bubbled, like swollen) then change itout. Or you will have a dual run capacitor that runs both compressor and fan motor. It will have the terminals marked (Fan, Common, Herm) Bsically check your capacitor mfd(micro fared rating, it will say on the capacitor what its rated) Get a multi meter and put in the "MFD' selection. Before you check any capacitor you have to discharge the the voltage charge it has. Use an insulated handle screwdriver and just place the metel part across the capacitor leads. Basicall short them out. Then proceed with checks...hope this helps( remember to always pull the disconnect out from the box outside to cut power)
