Your vertical output IC is either defective or needs re-soldering

I have an old mitsubishi TV model cs 35203 serial 515512, and all that shows up on the screen is a thin horizontal line through the middle.

You either have a cold solder connection on the vertical output IC401 or a failure of the Vertical output IC altogether. The part number should be labeled clearly on the front of the chip and is likely LA7836 or LA7837. It's difficult to reference parts on a set this old. Remove the chassis and visibly inspect the solder connections. If they look good, replace the chip. Good luck

When I power on my Mitsubishi CS-35313 tv, I only get a thin horizontal line across the center of the picture tube. What could be the problem?

There is a failure in the vertical deflection circuit. Typically there is a vertical output i.c. that provides the deflection vertically. The i.c. itself is a fairly common component to fail. There are some lower power circuits that feed this output device that also could be the problem. When the electron beam in the tube is not deflected vertically it "writes" only horizontally across the center of the screen thus resulting in a single trace. Be careful not to leave this at high brightness for any extended time as it can "burn in" that area of the screen. Unless you are a "techi" this is a job for a qualified technician. Troubleshooting would be in the vertical deflection section of the set. Most of the parts are not expensive in themselves, except for the deflection yoke which sits around the neck of the tube. The cost to repair would typically be the shop labor.

Screen is black except for thin line in middle of screen

The problem is in the vertical section of the main board. Bad capacitors and maybe the vertical IC. If you are not inclined to be a tech you will have to take it to a shop.. I don't know what they may charge but I normally get $69- $89

Single green line spanning across the screen horizontally

I was just watching TV and all of a sudden the screen minimized down to a single green line spanning across the screen horizontally. The label in the back says it was made in 1996 so it is an old tv. Can anyone help?

That sounds like vertical failure. Does the blue line run across the screen from side to side? Try resoldering the vertical output IC and see if that straightens it out. This is sometimes been a problem with that chassis. Let me know how you make out or if you need additional help.

What you have described is definitely some form of Electrical Interference. Interference can come from a variety of causes. Is the Cable Inputting the Cable Box close to some High Voltage Electrical Lines? Or Are you located near some Electrical Power Station? Or A Police station, where the Radio Transmitter of the Police Station causing the Interference? As I said, there are a variety of reasons. Also, Try to check if the connector is loose at the rear of the Cable Box, or at the rear of the TV. You will have to eliminate every possibility reason. Wish i could help further.
