Question about Betty Crocker Microwave Ovens

Open Question

On July 2nd, 2010 we purchased a 2 slice Betty Crocker toaster at Superstore in Chilliwack, B.C. Canada. On the 19th of August 2010 our toaster no longer works properly, We took it back to Superstore but because we had it more than 14 days they could not refund our money. The toaster was only $19.99 plus taxes a very cheap price for a toaster but we expected it to last a coupld of years not a month and half. Superstore said we could send it to Betty Crocker to be fixed but that would cost just as much as the toaster is worth. So my husband went to Sears and he purchased a Black & Decker toaster which I hope lasts maybe 10 years and paid a little more for it and hope it is worth it. The thing with Sears they take back anything that we have ever purchased that we are not satisfied with. Hope to get a response from Betty Crocker. Thank you, Margaret Arneil

SOURCE: I like to know how

I would think this is addressed in your owner's manual.

If for some reason you don't have your owner's manual, I would suggest calling the dealer where you bought it to see if they have a number for Betty Crocker.

The Magentron is what generates the RF energy that creates the heat to cook. After 20 years, the magnetron on your oven has probably finally died. Due to the age of your appliance, I could only find one web site that still carries the part. A replacement magentron is available at repairclinic.com as item number 373304 and costs about $60.

Now...performing any repairs on the high voltage network of any microwave can be dangerous. Absolutely do not attempt to service the oven with the unit plugged in. There are voltage potentials of 3000-4000 volts in the high voltage network.

With the unit unplugged, you will have to remove the exterior case. With the case removed, the high voltage section is located on the right hand side. The magentron should be easily found with a connector plug that needs to be removed and some mounting scews.

Do not attempt to test the unit without re-installing the exterior case.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: I'm impressed this unit has lasted 20 years.

If you were to log on to the manufacturer's web site, I think you will be pleasantly surprised as usually one is able to download, by model number, Customer Instruction Manuals, list of Dealers for spare part supplies as required.

The information is normally free of charge.

I hope this helps.

I recently got a Betty Crocker Breadmaker Model BC-1699 at an auction. It works with the exception that the Timer is always on and I can't go to Select but it goes ahead and makes the bread. I tried a lot...

Strange, that must be an old number or something, the correct number is 1-800-446-1898. It sounds like the timer has failed in this unit, I am surprised it still makes the bread properly. Please start with giving them a call and see what they say, it could even be under warranty, hard to say, even though you got it at an auction. Betty Crocker is very good with customer service and can probably help, but the unit is "broken" so to speak, it is nothing you are doing wrong.
Thanks Tim

Usually you must purchase the warranty within some specified time of the purchase, such as one week.

But your best bet is to contact the dealer where you purchased the unit. If they are able, they will be eager to sell you an extended warranty.
