Kenwood KNA-DV4100 Question

By Bouncy - usenet poster

I just had the KNA-DV4100 nav unit installed over the weekend.  There's
one thing that I just cannot figure out so I'm hoping someone can help.

The buttons that allow guidance are all "greyed out".  I can select the
screen configuration button, but I can only choose between single and
double screen.  I can't choose any of the other buttons.  I can hit the
microphone button and give voice commands.  It even says "voice
guidance on", but no turn arrow display, current road name, etc.

Any idea what I have to do to make those options available so I can get
voice guidance?

Thanks

When I originally had my KNA-DV4100 installed, the installer did hook it up to the right speed sensor wire, but it still wouldn?t communicate. If you go to the nav menu and press the gray area at the to for 30 sec + a diagnostic screen comes up and asks for a code press 014220 enter, you will see a few of the hidden screens gps satellite info and car signals this is the true test if the speed sensor is picking up the correct info. My installer along with Kenwood cust. Support suggested R&R the exiting diode with a new one, and it worked perfectly after that.
I just wonder how many more hidden screens are in this unit.

I can give you 2 options...

You can either take it back to the installer and have him/her check it to
see what is or is not happening, or if your close to Miami, Fl I can do the
same.

I had the problem of not being able to choose any other screens. I could only choose between the single/double screen. Also, there was no voice navigation. I had it installed at Best Buy, but they didn't do it correctly. I took it to another place that specialized in customization and they fixed it! So now it works properly. So just take it somewhere where they know what they're doing.

Actually my installer left the parking brake safety function off.  I
didn't ask him too, but he did it anyway.  Should I ask him about the
speed pulse wire?

Thanks for your help!

Greg.

Sounds like the speed pulse wire was not connected properly....
I assume you did check when your parking brake is on...

If you get the functions when the parking brake is on, I can tell you how to
fix the problem easily.

If it is your speedpulse wire, you might want to bring it back and complain

I am having the same problem.
I don;t seem to get the Turn-by-Turn Guidance to work. I entered my
destination address and calculated the route. Everytime, I click
"start", I get "the guidance will start when you enter the
hightlighted route".. I am already on the hightlighted route but it
doesn't seem to recognize it.
THe installer hooked up the Speed Sensor correctly coz i can see that
I am moving along the route and also get the correct speed read out.
What am I missing? Can anyone help?
