Hi

Please check for any paper jam inside the printer. All paper jams must be removed from the back of the product through the rear access door. Pulling the paper from the front of the product rotates the paper feed roller in the wrong direction and can damage the product. Open the print cartridge access door, and then wait until the print carriage is idle and silent. Make sure the printer is turned on. Remove the ink cartridges and inspect the carriage for small bits of paper. Now turn off the printer and unplug it. After unplugging it use a Q-tip and apply motor oil on the chrome bar. After this reset your printer, and will function normally. Hope this helps... If it does please do not forget to accept the solution or post back for assistance. Daniel

    Hi

While using a standard A4 paper, make sure that the paper guides are adjusted properly and that the paper is pushed well up to the back. Try to turn it upside down if you can and shake it a bit, such that any loose paper bits would fall out. Now try and locate the area near the printhead, where the ink is ejected from the cartridge. It looks like a piece of plastic with little yellow of gold bumps on it. Be sure you don't touch this area with your fingers. Take a Q-tip and dip it in alcohol and wipe this area. A couple swipes across it should do. Then inspect the matting area on the cartridge carrier. If this still doesn’t resolve the issue then open the clamshell as if you were changing the inks (power off) and remove the back hatch. With all this open, look over all of the small wheels and pinions, and the larger rubberized wheel that actually picks up the paper, making sure that there isn't any crud or clutter in the way, and that the pickup wheel feels just tacky enough to actually grab the paper.

Hope this helps... If it does please do not forget to accept the solution or post back for assistance.

I just changed the (2) ink cartridges in my HP PCS 1610 All-in-One HP printer and now get an error message "CARRIAGE JAM - OPEN DOOR. CLEAR CARRIAGE JAM, AND THEN PRESS OK." I don't see any jam...

Have you tried moving the carriage to see if it really is jammed? Maybe you haven't put the levers down properly on your new cartridges....remove them, see if the carriage slides, then refit them and check the carriage again. You wont visually 'see' a carriage jam,; you have to try moving it. By the way, if it doesn't move, DONT force it to try and overcome the jam try and reason out why it doesn't move.
Hope this helps!

HP PSC 1610 printer gives error message: Carriage Jam, clear carriage. I open the door and there isn't a Jam. I tried the solution (clean cartridge, turn off/on couldn't reset) posted by nanotech 9 Aug...

If you are getting a 'carriage jam' error as soon as you turn on your printer with no tasks in progress, then check for any piece of paper stuck in the carriage. Remove the paper carefully. If the paper tears, part of it might remain inside the paper path and damage the product.

Follow the steps for fix HP Printer Carriage Jam

  • Turn off the printer and open it to see where the paper is stuck.
  • Manually move the carriage toward the opposite side.
  • Check the paper path and remove any piece of paper or any other object that is stuck in the path.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Carriage jam - Turn machine on, get carriage jam message, however the carriage can move freely if moved by hand. If I close and hit enter, carriage sounds like it's moving, then I get the error message...

Sorry about the B.S., you can move the carriage by hand, and all you need is to clean the encoder strip that runs across behind the carriage assembly. You can wipe the strip gently with an alcohol swab or a Q-tip moist with alcohol. The bars on that strip tell the carriage where it is and grease or ink on it will give the carriage jam error. No calibration necessary after moving the head or cleaning the strip.

How to Clear carriage jam on HP PSC 1610 Printer? No obvious paper jam visible.

Dear it's the carriage jam error. so it mean that your carriage is jam not paper. so open the printer where you insert the cartridge. check whether it is jam or what . cartridge carrier is jam kindly turn off the printer and try to move the cartridge head by hand very gently and if seems to be stuck than check for anything which abort him to move freely so than might be anything like dust or else. when you get success in moving the head put some machine lubricant on the rod on which head moves and check it ok.

Carriage Jam

You are lucky you can print ANYTHING! My unit has NEVER worked (3 years) due to a hardware defect of HP. I downloaded patches, cleaned/replaced cartridges, etc.
Spoke to HP last nite-Was told printer was junk-they don't carry it or any parts to fix it anymore!! I was told to replace it!
