My neighbor just gave me a Bushnell Northstar computerized star locator--trouble reading mumber--it looks like a 78-8850 but the number appears to be 78-8845. Is there a model 788845?? Thanks.

I have a bushnell northstar 78-8831 and need to know how to reset the telescope. when in align earth mode it asks me to align star 2, skipping over star 1.

This scope has many goto issues. For one there is no way to reset the controller or to reload the firmware inside the hand controller. The firmware is probably corrupted.

You can contact their repair and support web site here:

I have a bushnell Northstar telescope #788831am. Is there a place i can update the are i am looking from. It knows las vegas nv and does not pull up reno nv. I need help.

I don't believe they have an "update" web site. However they do have a customer service web site here:
http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell-warranty.html

According to the manual PAGE 14 choose the closest city.

See this: http://www.bushnell.com/manuals/telescopes/78-8831_Northstar_GOTORV_4L.pdf

Apparently once you center the two alignment stars it does not matter. The closest city gets you near the alignment stars if Time, Date, etc etc are set properly.

There does appear to be a latitude longitude selection in the menu-- see the manual above. See if you can also set the exact Lat-Long in the hand controller.

Like others, I have trouble seeing stars. There is an obstruction, an image of the secondary mirror which obscures most of the star. Is this the spider? Others have asked the same question, but I haven't...

Yes, you are not focusing the telescope properly. When in focus you cannot see the spider.

Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the telescope. Go outside during the day and practice focusing on a distant object.

Bushnell Northstar

i think as with all who buy a scope you expect to see stars like on a xmas card, but that is not how they look, besides the moon is brilliant with a scope, there are some stars that cannot be seen with the naked eye, only time lapse phography will show them.so dont be dissapointed,is not going to get much clearer.why not join an amateur site like sky and scope or another source on the internet...best of luck and good viewing......larry@reichinstruments.com

Hello !
I had the same trouble. It's normal, you just have to put a lens to straight the image (it's use for terrestrial view).
