Question about Dell Studio 1737 Laptop

1 Answer

I have a Dell Studio 17 and I have, I guess what you would call "friction issues" with my touchpad. With just ordinary used, not an issue but I play some PC games where speed and aim is important and I find that there is either too much or not enough friction on the touchpad to ensure accuracy (I guess it depends on the moisture of my fingers at the time) I don't recall having this problem with other laptops before. I wonder if there is something I could put over the touchpad to change the texture to one more conducive to accuracy.

The better solution would be to use a mouse.

No much options just you can try reinstalling the Touchpad Driver and check if the issue is resolved. if your Computer is covered under NBD or Complete Cover, then initiate the warranty service from Dell support.

When you tap your touchpad it acts the same as a left-click action. accidentally skimming the touchpad when typing can be interpreted as clicking your cursor. If your cursor was over a different window than the one you were typing in, then you may have accidentally clicked out of the window where you were typing.
When typing try to place the cursor past the very end of your text and then if you accidentally bump the touchpad it won't mess up your work.

Go to control panel, Mouse, Synaptics or Touchpad tab. There should be an option either labeled Palmcheck or An option to disable touchpad while typing. That should resolve the issue

Won't eject cd and none of the touch buttons having to do with a cd playing like the volume, etc don't work

That's a known issue with the Studio laptop. I have the same laptop (almost the same- 15.4) and I experience the same difficulties a lot. Dell has some issues with their DVD drives.

The most affective solution I've found was to restart the computer, and click Fn+eject (it's the F10 button if I'm not mistaken)

That's the least intrusive solution I know

Arrow keys

If the keys are working on a notepad or else while typing it the issue is not with the arrow keys but with the key controls of the game that you are playing. Please change the setting of the keys while playing game or else try playing another game using the same arrow keys, i m sure it would work.

I would call Dell for this one. You system is still under warranty. I have worked for Dell and they should be able to replace your unit or tell you what to to to fix this issue. Take advantage of your warranty. This could be a defect. I hope this helps.
