ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Check to make sure you are getting full 220 Volt power to the dryer, if you are then:
Sounds like your problem may be with the heating coil. Remove the back of the machine and try to locate the air duct going from the blower to the drum. Normally inside the air duct you will find the heating coil and the thermostats/thermistor. Once you have located the heating coil, remove the two wires from it and check the coil with an ohm meter across the two terminals of the coil.
You should read continuity across the terminals, if not you will need to replace the coil as it is faulty.
If the heating coil is ok, then:
You can check the thermostat/thermistor by removing the two wires and taping them together with electrical tape. If the coil heats up then replace the thermostat/thermistor.
DO NOT LEAVE THE WIRES TAPED TOGETHER AFTER THE TEST.
This could cause a FIRE, as you have removed the safety of overheat from the machine.

Dryer not heating enought

The first thing you need to do is make sure your dryer vent hose is clean. An easy test (if you have a really long dryer vent run) is to unhook your dryer vent hose from the back of the dryer and just dry a load of towels like you normally would. If your towels are nice and dry when the cycle is complete, then you know your dryer hose vent is clogged somewhere down the line.

Dryer overheating on timed dry/no heat settings

Replace the thermostat. A very inexpensive thermocouple that is not sensing the heat anymore and caused the element to overheat. In the UK the part will cost less than five pounds!
If the element had touched the ground, your safety earth leakage breaker in the fuse box would have tripped.

Takes three cycles to dry towels, displays 45 min. turns off within 30 min. still not dry

2 possible reasons, either the towels have not been spun at a high enough speed and are too wet, or the dryer is not getting hot enough because it is not switched to a high enough heat setting or there is a partial element or thermostat or humidity sensor failure. You should spin your towels as fast as you can, 1000 MINIMUM but 1400 or more is better. Did it ever work? Is it a new drier? Is it getting hot? 45 mins is a short time anyway to dry a full load of towels.

Takes long to dry clothes

on your side, it is better you don't touch anything internal in the dryer as you can hurt yourself and spoil the device even more. have a professional take a look at it before you use it any further.

Takes 4 hours to dry a load of towels. plenty of heat - just not drying

How damp are the towels? More moisture= more time to dry

Is the dryer full to the top with towels? There needs to be enough space to allow for air flow in and out.
Also check exhaust vent to make sure it is not blocked.

Dryer taking longer to dry clothes

For a gas dryer:
Assuming the dryer is working properly and the control cycles are ok, look for things like a restricted venting system which inclides the exhaust, lint screen, etc. This would be the large pipe connected to the dryer exhaust that vents outside.

If it's an electric dryer, there could be issues with heating elements, thermostats, a control board, the timer, etc. Also check for any excessive lint build-up.

Not geting hot enough

The most common thing to cause this is a blocked vent. Start the dryer and go out to where the vent comes out of the house and see how hard it blows. If you feel little air out the vent, you will need to unhook the dryer from the vent and see how hard it blows there. If it is blowing good there you need to have the vent pipe cleaned. If dryer isn't blowing hard out the back, please reply back with the model number so I can give more detailed directions on checking the blower wheel and ducts.
