Is it a usb mouse?

1) USB legacy may be disabled in the bios, enter bios menu (usualy by pressing DEL or F1 or F2 on computer start) and look for the words USB and see if it disabled, if it is, change to enable and exit with save.

2) the USB socket port may be damaged, change port.

3) the power supply on your computer may be to small or you have a lot of usb peripherials connected.

4) try to use a usb to ps/2 converter

Mouse pointer jumps when moving it on screen.

If you are not using a mouse pad, try that. Using the mouse on reflective or glass surfaces. Try another mouse to see if it has the same issues. Check your mouse settings in control panel to make sure everything seems ok. Update mouse drivers. Finally, you can try to uninstall / reinstall the mouse.

The mouse that came with it was not used until yesterday and it sometimes lights up but even when it does, it does not work the pointer.

Hello,

If the mouse pointer works with a different mouse, then the problem is with the mouse that you are using now. You will need to get a new one if that's the case.

How do i change my cursor?

Go to Start and select Control Panel. In the Control Panel window click on Mouse. Now the Mouse Properties window should be open. Select the Pointers tab, now select the pointer you want to change. What I mean by that is that what your point looks like when nothing is going on, is different from the pointer that appears when a program is trying to load and so forth. Once you select the pointer you want to change, click on Browse... and a whole bunch of pointer options will come up that you can select and use.

Hope this helps!
