1) Check The receptacle in the surge protector, that the computer is plugged into.
I have had surge protectors where just THAT receptacle was bad.

"Hmmm, surge protector power on light is lit. Monitor, printer, and router, plugged into the surge protector, has power."

Upon plugging in a table lamp into THAT receptacle on the surge protector, I found THAT receptacle to be bad.
($30+ surge protectors, too!)

2) If the surge protector proves to be good, I would suggest performing a test that checks whether the Power On switch is bad, or the Power Supply, in the computer.

To expound:
Behind that plastic Power On button, is a Power On switch.
I have found this generic Power On switch fits many computers.

Just an example, to show you what a typical Power on switch looks like,

The test involves using a jumper wire to bypass the Power on switch, to see if the problem is the Power On switch, or the Power Supply.

Using the jumper wire turns the computer on, (Power Supply on), the problem is the Power On switch.

Using the jumper wire does Not turn the computer on, (Power Supply), the problem is the Power Supply.

Go to the right side, and click on Product Information.

Now click on Product specifications, and then on -
Motherboard Specifications, MS-6577 (Giovani, Giovani2)
(Close the web survey. It's something that can be done without, IMHO)

Scroll to the bottom of the page, and view the motherboard photo, and the motherboard illustration.

Refer to the motherboard illustration
Look to the top right for - CONN1

Now refer to the motherboard photo, and match up CONN1.
It is a white connector on the motherboard. Has 2 rows of 10 socket holes.

The correct name for this connector on the motherboard, is a 20-pin ATX main power cable connector.

This is more information on a 20-pin ATX main power cable, it's respective connector, and the matching connector on the motherboard,

With the side panel removed on your computer, (Computer Unplugged from power), you will see your 20-pin ATX main power cable, plugged into this connector on the motherboard.

Will resemble the photo to the far right.

[ NOTE*
Before reaching into a computer, have the power to the computer Unplugged.
Also follow Anti-Static Precautions.

Anti-Static Precautions:
Your body carries Static electricity.
Static will fry out (Short Circuit) the delicate hardware components inside a computer.

Relieve your body of Static BEFORE handling any computer parts, (hardware components), that you are going to install, and BEFORE you reach inside your computer.

Computer unplugged from power, computer case open, work on a table. TOUCH the metal frame of the open computer case, to relieve your body of Static electricity.

Should you get up, and walk away in the middle of working on your computer, upon your return be SURE to Touch the metal frame again.

Best method is to use an ESD wrist strap, (About $6), and connect the alligator clip to the metal frame.
Electro Static Discharge ]

Observing the photo to the far right, the procedure is to use a jumper wire from the Green wire, to ANY Black wire.

The main power cable is plugged in as shown.
One end of the jumper wire goes down into the socket hole with the Green wire, and the other end goes down into a socket hole with ANY Black wire.

[ The Green wire is the Soft Power on wire. Abbreviated as PS-ON.
ANY Black wire is a Ground wire.
You are making a circuit with the jumper wire, from the Soft Power on wire, to ANY Ground wire ]

The wires that go down into the main power cable's connector, have plastic insulation on them.
At the end of Each wire is a metal terminal connector.

The metal terminal pin is pretty far down in the socket hole.

For this reason, you have to ensure that the jumper wire is going down in the socket hole, (Right next to the wire that is already in the socket hole), and goes down in far enough to touch that metal terminal connector.

I usually state using an insulated wire, but am now going to concede, and advise what many state to use for a jumper wire.

A paper clip.

The paper clip is straightened out, then bent into a U shape.
The center of the U is wrapped with electrical tape.

The taped part of the paper clip 'jumper wire', is then held with your fingers, and thumb.

You may also wish to don a glove, on the hand that holds the jumper wire.
There will be a spark.

The voltage is 5 Volts DC.
Two D cell batteries used in a flashlight produce 3 Volts DC.

I would lay the computer on it's side, opening up.
Easier to access the 20-pin ATX main power cable's connector.
(Won't hurt a computer to lay on it's side, and be powered up)

Computer plugged into power, insert one end of the U shaped paper clip into the socket hole with the Green wire.
Now bend the paper clip if necessary, and insert the other end into ANY socket hole with a Black wire.

Make SURE the paper clip is touching the metal terminal connectors, down in the two socket holes.

Computer comes on?
Bad Power on switch.

Computer does Not come on?
Bad Power Supply.

The Power Supply used is just an ordinary ATX style of Power Supply.
Common in over 80 percent of PC's out there, and readily available.

The Wattage is 300 Watts.

The shape, and size of the Power Supply's case is approximately,
A) 6 inches Long
B) 6 inches Wide
C) 3-1/2 inches Tall

Make sure it has a 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable,

Newer Power Supply's have an ATX main power cable, that it's connector can be used as a 20-pin ATX main power cable, (Which you need), or a 24-pin ATX main power cable.

PC Not Turning On


It may mean that your video card driver is corrupted. Pull the card, start the computer, and remove the video drivers. (If you know how, remove them from the backup directories, too, just to be safe.) Then try to reinstall the video card just like it was new.

You might have heard and searched about shutting down remote PC.But, have you ever wished to turn on your PC remotely and access your file from FTP server and shut it down when not needed? Well you can. Sounds crazy isn’t it?
With simple tweak, you can turn your PC on from LAN. This will be a lot help if you have FTP server enabled from your desktop and you may want to access it from internet occasionally. Turning your PC always on will not be good as it will consume lots of energy. Even more your PC will be much more venerable for uninvited access.
To prevent this remotely turning on your PC can be good alternative.
To turn your PC on, all you need is the MAC (Physical address) address of the PC that you are turning on and Wake up on LAN or Power management from PCI enabled in the BIOS in the PC you want to turn on Remotely.
To check if it is enabled or not, go to BIOS setting in your PC by restarting and pressing Delete key(may varry according to motherboard). Go to Power Management Options, search for Wake up on LAN or Power management from PCI or any similar terms and enable it.
If you don’t see any option to manage power for PCI adapters then it might be possible to do it in Windows mode.
To do this, boot your computer to windows, go to Device Manager. Under network adapter choose the Network card that will be used to connect to LAN, i.e. your ethernet card.
Right click on it and choose properties. Go to Advanced tab.
Now in Property box scroll down to Shutdown Wake up or any similar terms. Select it and Enable it.
You may require a reboot after this.
Now your PC is ready to be turned on from LAN. This will enable to manage power from PCI devices like Ethernet cards. What it actually does is, configures BIOS to turn the PCI Ethernet card to grab some power even if PC is Powered Off. If any computer from LAN sends some command to PCI card then will will power on your PC.
Now anyting left to do is to have a tool to turn your remote PC own from remote location. I often use this tool since its free and customizable. With this free tool you only need to enter IP address of your PC and it will automatically get the MAC address of it. If required you have password field to enter.
Pressing Turn On button will turn on the PC with specified MAC address or IP address.You can also check if the PC is on or off.

I have three ibm 8303 pc n that was off for over 2 years and when i tried to open it again last week it wont open.i cleaned inside but then it worked for a while after i replace ram.but the problem now is...


wipe your ram cooper connectors with pencil rubber
and get tissue swirl it until it looks like the stick then wipe the ram banks inside it should work fine after tat its a dusty problem

How can i reboot my PC without keyboard?


Hi,

Here are some of the steps to you can reboot your pc without using a keyboard:

1) Long press the power button
- Press the power button for about 3-5 seconds. If the power LED or power supply fan shuts off, that means you have successfully turn off your pc. Press it again to turn on.

2) Unplug the power cord from the power supply
- Force your pc to shutdown by unplugging the power cord from the power supply of your pc. Put it back again and press power button to turn on.

Note: Please make sure you have saved important activities before doing this as this will immediately turn off your pc.

1. how many beep sounds do you here and in what sequence ?
2. please look at the small blinking lit at the back of your pc most of the time thir combination of blinking speeks its problem.
2. check/remove if you install new hard ware on the board

If you have another PC laying around that's got a power supply high enough to run the one you're having problems with, consider swapping them out.

Though it could be *********** board, it would be easier to swap PS's and see if the issue goes away. If not, it may be your MB.

Turns off suddenly


Hi guest, if your computer turns off suddenly, try these steps:

Turn off your pc, remove the cables on the battery, remove the battery on the pc. Then push the power button for 5 seconds and then reinsert the battery and the cables. Then turn off the pc.

If symptoms persist , please call your technical support of the brand you brought for possible repair.

Why would they work with PC turned off? Aren't they attached to your PC? If they are then they only work when PC is on.
So turn PC on.

remove all pwoer connector from motherboard and short green and black wire in supply shocket.If supply is run then it is the problem of motherboard.
