Most of the repairs on these sets are done by board replacement. After the defective board located sometimes there are some adjustments that have to be done.
Most of the repairs are done by process of elimation when board swaping is done to find the defective board. This is a much faster approach rather than analazing waveforms with a scope and taking voltage readings to determine the probabability of what board failed. Sometimes a fault can be determined, and the actual failed components are located on another board from where the readings were taken.
At home, it would not be practical for you to buy a full compliment of spare boards for process of elimination type repairs, and you would not have the facilities to peform the factory level adjustments if required.
The bottom line, is that you should give the set in for factory service if you want it properly serviced. Guessing at a fault and buying parts to try will be a lot more exensive.
