Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Hi, my Nakamichi TM1 clock radio (22 years old) works perfectly except that it turns on intermittently. Can someone suggest a repair site or do it yourself repair instructions? Or a 2 piece replacement. 2 piece clock radios seem to be a dying breed! Thanks in advance

Those 6 pin connectors come out of alignment and/or the six oins oxidize. First check pins and make sure they're all there and straight. Then make sure the radio is on a station (main unit) then turn balance full to aux speaker then gently apply torque to the connector that goes into rear of the TM-1. At some point, if problem is oxidation or pin alignment the proper contact should result in sound coming from the aux speaker. When that happens, use tape on the back to keep the connector in the exact position where proper contact occurs; then reset balance control back to mid position. Your problem is probably not an open, since well packaged thin gauge stranded or even solid wire rarely breaks unless it has been yanked or otherwise abused. I had the same symptoms, and the steps I suggest here worked fine for me.

I have an old Nak TM-1 with the same problem....I have isolated ot to the MPC cable connecting the two units; specifically, just outside of the back of the main box. Seems like an intermittent 'short,' even though there is no actual motion of this cable over the years. It mpc's-into the remote unit, but is hard-wired to the base unit. Anyone know if I can order/locate a replacement cable?

I'm not an expert but I'd say the trick is figuring out whether the short is in one of the jacks on either end or in the cable itself. If it's the cable it shouldn't be too hard to buy a new cable from a place likehttp://www.showmecustomcables.com/ for instance.

I have a Nakamichi Soundspace 8 and lost the main woofer transformer unit; any ideas as to where I can either get the transformer or the entire woofer main unit?

HI THERES ONE ON UK EBAY NOW AT £59 BUY IT NOW. A NEW WOOFER CABLE FROM NAKAMICHI IS £150 . INSTEAD JUST CUT THE METAL SHIELD OFF ANY CD MINI DIN CONTROL CABLE WITH A JUNIOR HACKSAW AND IT WILL FIT PERFECTLY (IT ONLY GOES IN ONE WAY BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE PINS ARE LAID OUT!). I USED AN OLD MAC DIN PLUG BECAUSE IT WAS 3M LONG! WORKS PERFECTLY!

Hi . My clock radio clock continuously displays

Likely a bad backup battery inside the clock, or a capacitor that is leaking a charge.

Radio only plays for 1/2 second and then turns off.

Nevermind! My problem was fixed, I'm embarrassed to say, with new batteries. I had been told that the batteries in the radio were new when in fact they weren't. Thanks anyway.
