Question about Sharp Aquos LC-42D62U 42 in. LCD HDTV

1 Answer

Trying to connect my mac to my Sharp Aquos. Initially, I plugged the HDMI to DVI ports in and the display worked fine. Then I rebooted the mac and the TV screen is now blank. Disconnecting, rebooting, and power cycling the TV do not help the situation. This same thing happened 2 weeks ago. The first time I plugged the DVI cable into the mac it works fine. If the computer is turned off or disconnected, or if the TV is turned off, there is only a blank screen. The mac detects the display and I can modify the refresh rate and the resolution, but no changes there fixed the problem either.

    Sorry, wrong model number: LC-C4677UN

  • onerine Aug 22, 2010

I have been manually selecting the signal each time I plug in. Doesn't help, unfortunately.

Sorry, looks like I added the comment in the wrong place. I have been manually selecting the AV source each time, but unfortunately, that doesn't help. Good thought, though!

Maybe the tv can't detect the signal coming from the Mac and it doesn't automatically switch to it. Try to select manually the correct AV source before starting the Mac.

In that case the problem is definitely in the Mac: either the video card is defective or the OSX keeps losing the settings (which is quite odd). Try first to reinstall the OSX. If this doesn't fix the problem then the card is gone, replace it.

Is there anything less invasive we can try other than reinstalling the OS? The video card has worked fine on about 8-10 other displays, so I really don't think the card is the problem. Again, this problem only occurs the _second_ time the computer is connected. The first time it works. I cannot restart the computer or the tv screen goes blank. And once the screen goes blank, it does not return whether I reboot the machine, shut off the TV or both.

When it works, it works well without issue until I disconnect the computer or restart it. This has worked 2x randomly over the past 2 weeks if I just connect it, but I have not figured out the pattern. A friend of mine has had a similar issue with the same TV and he thinks it is related to the refresh rate setting, if that helps. I am waiting to hear from him about more specifics.

Any additional advice would be much appreciated.

It can't be a problem with the tv's refresh rate - if it would have been that then the tv should have displayed a Resolution Not Supported message, That assuming the tv works fine and if your friend has observed similar behaviour it might not be the case.

You must find the problem by exclusion - start by replacing the tv for a longer time period: if the problem goes away then the tv is faulty somehow (the processor on the mainboard is iffy.

I am trying to connect my macbook to a sharp LCD

Are you tyring to play something off your laptop onto your TV? If yes then what you can see right now( Bigger picture of your laptop) that is correct. For no sounds try plugging in the speakers into the laptop headphone jack directly and then see it that works. If it does then the dvi-hdmi conenctor might have gone bad and needs to be replaced.

If you have other queires please reply back to this thread.

Sharp Aquos 46" HDMI problem

I have a similar problem. The Sharp TV aquos appears to be shutting down my blue ray player and dvd recorder when connected via HDMI. They work fine and never close down when I connect them via the rca cables either single video connection or a composite 3 cable rca lead. I have 3 HDMI inputs on the tv and the problem occurs on all 3. Any suggestions?

Connecting Powerbook G4 to Sharp Aquos LC-20D10-W

A few tries, go to the apple in the top left and choose SYSTEM should bring you to:

In the HARDWARE row you should see DISPLAYS. Select that and you will be at:

You have the DETECT DISPLAYS button, and also CLICK the "Show displays in menu bar" box, so you dont have to keep going through menus to configure.

If you look at the F7 key, to the right of the NUM LOCK key (F6), that key allows you to switch from expanded to mirroring or vice versa.

You can also check Apple's Knowledge base....

Keep me posted.
