Question about GPS

I have a very old scientific calculator (about 15 yrs old), EC 4031 brand is Tandy AKA Radioshack. desperately need to know how to use standard deviation and mean, for statistics. PLEASE HELP ME

Hi,

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)

click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Goodluck!

SOURCE: Looking for a Tandy EC-4031

Radio Shack's manuals page for calculators is here. Your model isn't listed, but there are some close to it. You can try downloading some and see if any are similar enough to help. Hope you can find it!

This will show you how to do statistics (calculate average, standard deviation, regressions etc.) as to the mode and median refer to the definitions.

TO COMPUTE STANDARD DEVIATION AND 2-VAR STATISTICS.

I assume
you
know the theory. I will show you the key strokes

For
1-Var statistics

Press [MODE][3:STAT] [1:1-VAR].
You are ready to
enter values in the X column.

Enter a number and press [=]. Cursor
jumps to second number to enter.

Keep entering numbers and pressing
[=] till all numbers are in. Press the [=] key after the
last one.**Press
[AC] key to clear the screen.**

Press
[SHIFT] [STAT] (above digit 1.) then [5:Var]. Screen displays the
statistical variables 1:n ;2: x bar; 3: x sigma n; 4:x sigma n-1.

Press
the
number corresponding to the statistical value you want, ex 1:n . The
variable appears on screen. Press [=] and it will be displayed.

To
display another variable press [SHIFT][STAT][5:Var][ 1,2, 3, or 4] .

To access the sum of squares sigma x^2 and the sum of data sigma x
press[SHIFT][STAT][4:SUM] then [1: for sigma x^2] or [2: for sigma x].
Press [SHIFT][STAT][6:MinMax] to access minX and maxX.

For 2-var statistics

To
perform
2 variable statistics you press [MODE][3:STAT] and any of the
other regression options (except 1:1-Var). A two column template opens
where you enter the X and Y values. When finished entering data, press
[SHIFT][STAT][5:Var]. to access the different statistics. As I assumed
above, you should be able to
recognize what each variable means.

Hi there,

There is a really great website called www.mathsatsharp.co.za that is dedicated to answering questions and helping people who own the Sharp scientific calculator range.

For Stats - i assume you are using the 535 with the table. Simply type in each data value, press = after each. Press change.

Press alpha and the number of the function you would like (for example 4 gives the average). Be careful with your standard deviation for population (on 6) and sample (on 5). In school we use the population standard deviation formula and not the sample standard deviation.

Mean absolute deviation.

Let's break it down into its components.

Mean - Average

Absolute - absolute value - sign doesn't matter - if negative, make positive

Deviation - difference from the mean

Let's do an example. Population 3 7 4 2. Total 16. Mean (Average) 16/4 = 4.

Deviations

3 - 4 = -1 absolute value 1

7 - 4 = 3

4 - 4 = 0

2 - 4 = -2 absolute value 2

Sum of these deviations 1 + 3 + 0 + 2 = 6

Mean (average) of these deviations is 6 / 4 = 1.5.

Good luck,

Paul

To convert an x value to a z-score, the formula is:

(x value - mean)/standard deviation

Example: We have a number of height measurements that have a mean of 65.25 and a standard deviation of 2.84. One value is 68.5. To convert it to a z-score: (68.5-65.25)/2.84 = 1.144

Hope this helps!

- Calculator must be in SD mode (standard deviation mode) :Press [MODE] [.]
- However, if [FIX] or [SCI] appears on display you must press [MODE][9] first.
- Data input always starts with [SHIFT][SAC], to clear the registers of old data.
- Type a number and press the [DATA] key, it is the [M+] key at the bottom right of keypad.

Press [SHIFT] [9] (sigma n-1) to get sample standard deviation

Press [SHIFT][8] (sigma n] for the population standard deviation

Press [SHIFT] [7] (xbar) for the mean

Press [SHIFT] [6] (n) for the number of data entries

Press [SHIFT] [5] (capital sigma x) for the sum of values

Press [SHIFT] [4] (capital sigma x to y) for the sum of squares of the values
