Question about Ingersoll Rand Type 30 Electric Driven Two Stage Horizontal Air Compressor 120 Gallon Fully Packaged Ir 2545E10VFP

2 Answers

Hi, I have an old IR Type 30, two-stage compressor, model #: V242 N3. The current motor is 3hp, 1 ph,1740 rpm and may need to be replaced. Is it safe to use a full-speed, i.e., 3450 rpm motor on this unit? Additionally, I would really like to find a manual for this compressor. Do you know where they might be available? Thank you, Bob Sieger

No you need to use a compressor duty motor same rpm using a higher rpm motor will shorten the life of the motor if you have 3 phase power even better single phase motors aren't as efficient and run much hotter and dont last very long on air compressors

Most "real" air compressors run quite slow and you should stay in that rpm range. If you wanted just a little more out of it you could bump the horse power up a bit and install a larger pulley on the electric motor.

Hi,I got a Ingersoll Rand type 30 model 234 compressor. It looks good but it has no motor.I'm thinking like 120v,3horses?,but not sure about rpm.any help would be nice.thanks

According to the information you provided your looking at a 10 HP motor at three phase. Do you have three phase at your location? If not I would look into getting a single phase compressor. If you do want to get it going I would notify your local IR dealer so they can get you the right Model number, RPM, Pulley and Motor Frame Size to match your unit.

Please read below....Jim...if this helped you please send me a positive response...Thanks!

I need to know what size breaker and what size electric cable should be used in the installation of this Ingersoll Rand SS3L3 3hp motor. I've ordered the compressor but it is supposed to take awhile before...

Hi,
I am assuming that you will be hooking the air compressor to a 240 volt line...
That motor will draw about 18 amps...... so a 20 amp line will be too close to that draw....
so you will be looking at a 30 amp line...
For that you will need to run a 10gauge three wire with ground on a 30 amp two pole breaker...
that will serve you for up to about 100 feet of wire... if you are running the wire farther then that you will need to up size the wire to 8 gauge so that the motor can draw enough to get started...

Motor pulley for an old Ingersoll Rand type 30 compressor

Hi,
Here is a link to Ingersoll-Rand (compressed air division) where you can find a local distributor. I think a call to a parts tech might provide the original motor sheave outside diameter and belt size (I'm suspecting "A" or "B" size).

http://www.ingersollrandproducts.com/contact/air/index.aspx

With that info, here is a link to a good industrial source for your new motor sheave (McMaster-Carr):

http://www.mcmaster.com/#v-belt-sheaves/=3fwz7b

Their prices aren't so bad.
You may also have a local industrial sales in your area.
I hope this helps you... Nice compressor!

Hi ,Crazy horse. information perfect . with a14.5 inch pully on the compressor and amotor running at 3450 rpm you can get with a 5 inch pully----1189.6 revs per min ---- with a 4 1/2 pully ---1071..6 revs per min so you hve to decide whether you want the max or the min from that compressor...
