If the CD isn't an autorun, you can click Start > My computer > select your CD drive, right click it and select open or explore to access the files on the CD.

Windows Vista won't load after a full factory restore on my dell dimension e521 ?

Go into your BIO's at startup and set it to load from the CD-Rom only. Then drop the Vista disk in the CD-Rom and restart the computer. After it loads you will need to go back into the BIO's and set it back to where it was before you made this change.

I can not get my cd rom to work in my puter it is a window 98 se .

Welcome to FixYa. My name is Steve. The surefire way to see if your cd rom will work with your computer is to boot your computer with the windows 98 start up disk and choose the option to start the computer with cd support. If you do not have a start up floppy you can make one using the Microsoft instructions at this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/187632 If your cd works with the generic drivers loaded with that Start up floppy then you need only to locate the drivers for your cd rom which you have not yet specified as to the brand and model number. Post that info if you need more help. Steve Medley

I need to reinstall windows on packard bell imedia 5106

Because you have a packard bell, I would assume this is a much older system.  You would have to put Windows 98 on it I presume unless you have enough memory to do XP.  Either way you will need one of the Windows CDs to load the software... I ve seen Win98 on Ebay for $50. Once you have the software, you will need a boot disk.. You can download this off the Internet.  What this boot disk does, is it loads the utilities that you need like to format the hard drive and it will also load the cd rom drivers so you can use your cd rom and install windows from the cd... Load the boot disk and once its loaded you can use the format command.  At the C Prompt, type     format C:     It will erase the Hard Drive. Once completed,  Reboot the computer with the boot disk still in. When it gets done you can install Windows. Most times it will assign the cd rom drive a letter. Usually D or E.   When it comes up type    E:\Setup This should start your install.                                                              Joe < Data Miner >

How to use the recovery cd-rom that comes with evesham computer

easy. put it in and shut down. remember to back up everything first, or just burn everything you can.
when the pc starts, if it automatically fires up windows the bios has been set to run from harddrive. shut down and when restarting either del or F2 will get into bios.
go thro each page until you see the part on 1st boot device. some will set it to harddrive. bad move. get the first boot device to cd rom, second to your harddrive. save and restart.
the cd will boot and you will get either the logo, or do you want to boot from cd rom
hit return and carry on.
now. when windows shuts down do not touch a thing unless you have to, the screen do you want to boot from cd rom will come up. dont, let it carry on and you will reinstall all the functions of the cd rom
how do i know this, well, my main pc has been rebooted 35 times so far, good old viruses and trogens.
how would we learn without them at all.
oh. when windows wants to load windows it will reconise the origional windows. a point here. if you need to get all the info off a computer, do not load onto the origional windows but make a second system of windows. it will warn you about 2 operation systems. but if you need to recover some things, do it.
also. you know these cheap mp3 players. the one gig ones. they are fantastic to use as removable drives and for a tenner, you get a storage device, also a mp3 player.
now one point. if you had a fault with windows, or a virus or worm, reinstalling windows on the partition will not work.
follow the on screen to delete the partition. it will ask about 3 times are you sure, the last one is press L to delete. do this and remake the partition.
then install windows.
The real safe way is to use a win 98 boot disc. but i found no problems doing it this way.
if you have another mc, make it a slave and format the whole drive.
i hope this helps you

Os instalation will not load

Hi Dobssand, the most common reason for a CD-ROM (With a Windows CD in it) does not start to load is the motherboard's bios is not set correctly. While in the bios go to the title Boot & enter boot order. This is a common boot order for a PC.
1st boot device = [Floppy disk drive]
2nd boot device = [CD-ROM drive] (Model number of the CD-ROM drive).
3rd boot device = [Primary Hard Disk Drive] (Model number of drive).

Second most common reason is the data cable to the CD-ROM drive is loose or not fully connected either at the CD-ROM or at the motherboard. (Check it).
If you choose not to enter your bios, you can still get the CD-ROM drive to boot the Win CD in this fashion. Load the Win CD into the CD-ROM drive. Power off the system. Than power on the system & start to press the F8 key once every two seconds. Windows "Please select boot device:" window will open. Using your keyboards up & down arrow keys high-light the CD-ROM drive that has the win CD in it & press the enter key. Windows should start to load. If you receive an error message stating windows can not find your hard disk drive. Than you must enter your bios & go to the title Boot. Your hard disk drive is not listed in the boot order section. Worst case! Your hard disk drive may be faulty. Find the manufactures name printed on a large white sticker on once side of the HDD. Go to the manufactures web site & download their drive setup software so you can create a bootable floppy disk. This will allow you to check/test the HDD & format it for a windows installation.

Or is this not the issue you are having?

Good luck!
Mike

My Computer Wont Read DvD's or CDs!

Is the CD drive display in my computer? yes

then clean up your CD/DVD rom for there is dust in it, specially on the lazer lens that let the rom read the CD/DVD.

If no, then; Fix some cable connection towards your CD/DVD rom for it was lessen.

If not fix the problem verify the disc if it is readble by your Rom. Please try another disc in your Rom.

if same happen, then maybe its time for a new CD/DVD ROM.

one last try:

try your new purcahse disc in another computer that is compatible with your disc.

hope this help, melnavz
