may be a problem with the input on the tv or the receiver itself. if you have another receiver, try hooking it up to see if you get a video or component cables (red, green, and blue) work just as well these are video only so also have to have composit cables hooked up with it
Your tv might not have the componet inputs. If yours are yellou red and white those are A\V inputs. The monster cord is green blue red and a set of red and white. You can get the A\V cable for the x-box for less than $20
Your Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W170 came with a cord that had a little flat plug on one end and three separate plugs on the other end. The single plug goes into the bottom of your camera. The end that has three plugs has
(1) USB (2) video output (3) audio output
(2 and 3 are for hooking up to your TV)
If you connect the USB end to your PC and the single, flat plug into your camera, this acts as the USB cable. There is no USB plug on the camera (for just a USB cord).
My panasonic did the same thing. turns out my coaxial cable hooking up the cable from the wall was bad. Once i unhooked it from the wall, the sound popped. I wiggled it a little on the receiver end on the wall and got sound. So try replacing your cable box cord and see if it fixes it.
it really doesnt matter what color the cables are as long as the one from video out on the dvd player is going to video in on the tv then the same for the sound.yellow is generally video and red would be your sound
I would have to guess that you are hooking up a DVD recorder?
If you are then you take the video and audio cables out of the cable box and hook them in to the DVD R input plugs. The output wires go to the TV video/ audio in. Its just like hooking up a VCR.
Now if you are trying to hook the DVD player up to watch movies then you have to hook up the audio/video cables up from the DVD to the back of the TV into your Video 1/2 input. If you have the Component wires you hook them up the same way.
Now if your TV only has the one set of plugs (video/audio) then goto your local Audio/Video store and pick up the A/V cables that have the "Y" or "T" plug on one end.
