Question about Dishwashers

2 Answers

My Bosch dishwasher does not start. Instead it just ticks. I am not aware of any timer that it has. We have let it tick all night. One time in the last 20 attempts to start it (by closing the door) it did start but not since. Model number SHX46B. It is about 5 years old.

This is a follow up on the Bosch.I did all those things and it is the kind that the controls are on the inside. there is no delay I can find. The model is SHX46B. Is there some kind of delay I don't know about. It seems more likely since it did start one in the last 30 tries to be some short or something. Any ideas

Hi.

It is possible that the timer board is responsible, timer board however is an expensive part and fails rarely.

Before replacing control, if there is no water coming in check:

Door lock
Inlet hose at the back
Inlet valve
water level sensor (float or pressure)

If there is water getting in but cycle does not advance check:

Hot inlet in valve (if valve is dual)
Heating sysem (if valve is not dual0
Thermostat
water level.

If all the above is Ok go for the timer board, that is likely the problem

Hi

Please check your control board checked. If the dishwasher does not start, first make sure that the door is properly latched by shutting it completely. Check whether the dishwasher is turned on. The "On/Off" button is located on the left side of the control panel. Press the button one time to turn the dishwasher on. For models featuring a concealed control panel, meaning that the control panel is located on the inside edge of the door rather than on the door's face, the unit will not start unless a wash cycle has first been chosen. Finally, the "delay start" option may need to be canceled. This option allows the user to delay when the dishwasher's cycle begins by up to 24 hours. To cancel this option, press the "+" or "-" buttons on the control panel until "00" is indicated on the digital display panel.

I traced it down to the timer switch or function selector being faulty. Are these other posters really that dumb or are they trying to mislead someone for their amusement ?

Flashig lights, ticking sound, unfinished cycle

It sounds like it may be a heater problem or motor start problem. If you will post the complete model number from the decal, I may be able to look up something on it.
You should be able to get warranty service even without the proof of purchase as long as the manufacturing date proves it is within the warranty period. The date code is in the serial number.
If you will post it also I can look it up and tell you when it was built.
Thanks/Mike

Timer doesnt tick but works if moved manually

The timer has come to the end of it's serviceable life. Being mechanical, they wear out and are not designed to be econonomically fixed.

It needs replacing.

Bosch SHU4312 won't finish cycle, won't drain.

The control board on these units is prone to a cold solder joint cracking. I have read that Bosch recommends replacement and will supply the board, not covering labor. I repaired mine prior and have done one for a friend as well. Has lasted several years and counting
The symptom is constant cycling without ticking down the last few minutes

Dial doesn't advance

You don't want to replace the timer switch just for that. If it is under warranty, get it done ASAP.
If not, wait till you have a real problem with the timer, like it not running, or doesn't cycle completely.
Then the switch will have to be replaced and you'll miss that tick tick ticking.

If you coud describe where you hear the noise that would be helpfull. the noise could be somethig hilling one of the spray arms or something stuck in the pump impeller. if you only wear it when it is only in a wash cycle I would say it may be someting in the wash pump. But also make sure the spray arms are moving freely
