After reconfiguring my lap top's os, vista, I have no volume control installed.

Check your hardware device manager.

To access Device Manager, go to Start | Control Panel | System and Maintenance | System | Device Manager (Device Manager is located under "Tasks" in the left hand column of the "System" menu). A list of hardware will display like the one shown below.

Hardware you expect to find is not listed If you cannot find the hardware you expect to find, it is likely the hardware is installed incorrectly. You should power down your computer and locate the physical hardware on your computer. Verify it is installed correctly, and restart your computer. Once you have restarted your computer, Windows should automatically recognize the hardware and go through an installation process. You may be asked to provide drivers during this installation.
If you verify that the hardware is installed correctly but still does not appear in Device Manager, please contact the DoIT Help Desk.
A yellow exclamation mark appears next to your hardware A yellow exclamation mark next to your hardware means the device is recognized by Windows but is not working properly. This usually indicates a driver problem. Update your drivers by following the directions below.
  1. Right-click on the hardware and choose Properties.
  2. Click on the Driver tab.
  3. Click on Update Driver....
  4. Click on Search automatically for updated driver software.
  5. Windows will automatically look for updated drivers for your hardware. If unable to find any, you will need to go the hardware manufacturer's website and download new drivers.
A red X appears next to your hardware A red X indicates that the hardware is disabled. Right-click on the hardware and click Enable. Your hardware should no longer have a red X.
If you are still having problems with hardware after you enabled it, please.

A Network Drive, that which is connected via an Ethernet cable will not appear as new hardware. You should have connected it to the router on your network, then seen it as a network device.
Check My Network Places.
You will need to Map a drive to see it every time you boot.

I have downloaded driver for philips 170c monitor but when i go to zip file there is no driver there

These are the steps you need to follow to install the driver: Download from the link below:

Philips 170c Monitor

It is a zip file so you will need to unzip it into a separate folder. Once the files are unzipped you need to locate the 170C8.inf setup information file. Once you have located that file right click on it and you will see the option to Install. Click that and it will ask you to open it. Choose open.

If that fails you can do the following:

Installing a new device

1.Open Windows Device Manager. In the Device Manager make sure the device you're attempting to install is not already listed from past install attempts. If the device is found highlight it and remove it from Device Manager to prevent any conflicts during the install.
2.Once Device Manager looks ok reboot the computer.
3.As the computer is rebooting an install new hardware wizard should appear if Windows detects the new hardware using this wizard you should be able to point Windows to the folder containing your drivers either on the CD, diskette, or the folder containing the files you downloaded.
If Windows does not detect any new hardware open Control Panel and double-click the Add hardware icon to run the hardware detection wizard. During the steps you will have an option to tell Windows you have a disk containing the drivers for your new hardware device, at this point Windows to the directory containing the drivers for your device.

Once drivers have been installed reboot.

Problem installing hardware

What if you go to control panel and open the hardware wizard to add new hardware instead?
then try to browse to the location of the installation files (on disk or wherever you downloaded them.) Also maybe try going to the support site for your hardware online and download the latest installation files or drivers and install those instead of using the disk.
For any more, we need to know what OS you're using and what kind of errors you're getting when you attempt to install.
Good luck.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
