Is my simple tech 60GB compatable with windows 7 the disk said for windows 2000 and xp

Most portable hard drives work with any operating system

Plug and Play is a simple Windows controller that enables your Windows computer to recognize and adjust to hardware changes and devices plugged on your computer such as hard drives, memory cards and USB and Firewire-powered devices with little or no input from a user. If your system is not recognizing plugged-in hardware, the plug-and-play device may be disabled and may cause instability on your system. Enabling this feature is simple.

Click "Start" on your computer screen and then click "Run." Type in services.msc on the run window and hit "Enter." Scroll down the services window and right-click "Plug and Play." Click "Properties" on the pop-up menu. Select "Automatic" under start-up type if it is disabled. Click "OK" to save the changes. Click "Start" on your screen and click "Control Panel." Double-click "System" and click the "Hardware" tab. Click the "Device Manager" button and then right-click the plug-and-play device you want to enable, then click "Enable." Close the device manager. Hope this helps.

How to determine your computer's MAC address

Applies to Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7

1. Click Start - Run

2. Next enter "CMD" and click OK

87db066.png
3. Next at the command prompt type "ipconfig /all" and press enter

At this point all your active connections will list on the screen. Note you may need to scroll back up the window to get to the MAC address info you need. Also keep in mine if you are connected to your wired or wireless connection because both will have a MAC address assigned to them and they will be different.

4. Look under the Local Area Connection if connected to your network via a wired connection or Wireless Network Connection if connecting via a wreless connection.

Once under the right connection you will want to look for the line that shows "Physical Address" this will have what the network cards MAC Address listed.

Note if you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 and you access a lot of different networks then you may have a lot of Tunnel Adapters list that causes overflow in the CMD buffer. If this happens the top part of the "ipconfig /all" report will get cut off. To fix this all you need to is turn off IPV6 in your network properties and reboot your computer. This will remove the ones that are tied to IPV6. After you reboot you should be able to see MAC address for your netork devices. After you get the MAC address it is recommended that you turn IPV6 back on because there is some programs that have been writen for IPV6 for when it becomes a standard.

How to allow ping (ICMP Echo) request through Windows 7 Firewall

If you need to know how to access the Windows 7 Firewall and the basic info on the operation of the firewall the link below will cover this for you.

http://www.fixya.com/support/r5088048-check_windows_7_firewall_settings

The below process will cover enabling ping requests through the Windows Firewall.

1. After you are in the Windows 7 Firewall you will need to select "Advance Setting" on the left hand side of the window.

2. Click on Inbound Rules

0cc705b.png
3. Next you will need to scroll down the list until you see "File and Printer Sharing (Echo Request - ICMPv4-In)".

Note in Windows 7, Microsoft moved the rule under the File and Printer Sharing section. So if you are trying to find the rule for Windows Vista you will want to look under Networking.

4. After you find the listing you will need to right click and select Enable Rule.

f84588c.png
Note you will see the listing for each network profile. So you will want to do this for each one. Also at this time you do not need to enable the ICMPv6-In rule because ICMPv6 is not current used as a standard.

5. Click on the red "x" to close the Windows Firewall with Advance Security window.

You should now beable to send ping requests through the Windows 7 Firewall.

3. Next at the command prompt type "ipconfig" and press enter

4. Look under the Local Area Connection if connected to your network via a wired connection or Wireless Network Connection if connecting via a wreless connection.

Once under the right connection you will want to look for the line that shows "IP Address" this will have what the computers current IP Address is. Note if you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 it will be listed as "IPv4 Address". Also while you are here take note to what the "Default Gateway" is because if you are trying to network computers together you want to make sure they are connecting to the right network.

My wlan will not enable

Check that wireless service is running
XP: Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, then press Enter.
Scroll down to "Wireless Zero Configuration" and right click on it and select Properties. Set it to Automatic and not Disabled, and press the Start button, then click OK.
That should start the service.
7 (vista): Click Start, type services.msc, then press Enter.
Scroll down to "WLAN AutoConfig" and right click on it and select Properties. Set it to Automatic and not Disabled, and press the Start button, then click OK.
That should start the service.

To enable wireless adapter we need to go to device manager and enable it.
XP:
1. Right click on My Computer and click on properties.
2. Click on Hardware tab on system properties window.
3. Click on Device Manager
To go to device manager we need to click on the device manager button.
Now we can see all the hardware devices connected to the computer. To see the status of our wireless adapter click on network adapters.
4. Enable the Wireless adapter
To enable wireless adapter, right click on it and click on enable.
7 (vista):
  1. Open the Start Menu by clicking the Start button. Click on Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel, click on Network and Internet.
  3. In the Network and Internet panel, click Network and Sharing Center.
  4. In the Network and Sharing Center, click "Manage network connections" in the Tasks list on the left side of the window.
  5. The Network Connections manager will open. Right-click the icon labeled Wireless Network Connection and click Enable on the menu displayed.

The last step checks if you have the wireless switch on or off. Locate the wireless button (in the middle, above the keyboard). Try to toggle it, see if is says anything.

Need Mouse Driver for Mac Leopard

Without the drivers the mouse runs great. The only thing you can't do is use the second scroll wheel to scroll left and right. Instead the mouse scrolls in the opposite direction than the first scroll wheel. The side buttons can be configured within OSX and Windows for whatever you might want.
