My xb31 has either a fuse or sensor or other issue as well: It does not respond to power in any way, no lights, no nothing. Are there any user-replaceable items that would cause this? It's not the bulb, since the bulb is new. It does not power u0... Help! Thanks, Alan L

Hi, i solved the problem by opening the projector cover and placing/making sure that the left fan was in the the right place ...
on the bottom tracks but make sure to align the fan with the top cover track as well .... in other words, if the left fan is not *exactly* in it slots (top & bottom) ... a slight degree misplaced (fan) and the projector over heats...

- this happened during a change of lamps : + the lamp that was on was not even broke.. !!

- it can occur too during shipping or just manutention...

GOOD LUCK.

Hi, well the projector will work for +/- 1h30 then overheats and shuts down. The light indicates overheat, not temperature problem.. in the specs.. anyways, i put a new lamp in and it still does the same thing. It worked for 4-5 hours without shutting down when i tried it with the top cover open at 1 inch.
Thanks for your interest. Marc.

Hi Marc

How do you know that the sensor needs replacement ?

Could you please give me some of the sympoms first ?

This could be something other than a sensor.

I have an HP XB31 Projector with a broken color wheel. Is there someplace to get a new / replacement wheel without having to buy a used or broken projector on e-bay?

You should be able to get the part directly from HP. See Here.
enter your serial number or parts code and viola.
If it's not listed on the site. Call them. They have many parts not available online over the phone.

There are many so called shops. But I highly recommend an authorized or certified shop. Although HP is no longer making projectors, there are still authorized and certified shops in Atlanta. We can not direct you to one at this time. Good luck.

VPL-HS20 shuts down in the middle of a movie

There is a heat sensor cutting down the power. The sensor is located on the upper side between lamp and fan and is monitoring the air temperatur. I don't know what is causing the sensor to switch - excessive heat or simply age or ... . Anyway un screwed this sensor and my problem disappeared.
Possibly a stronger fan would solve the problem too.

XB31 projector overheat

Hi sun_md

This sounds like a typical temp. sensor that is faulty.

If you take off the top cover of the Projector and follow the cables from your fans to the Mainboard - you'll find a smallish board that regulates the heat of the Projector. You will also find another sensor on top of the lamp housing.

Try replacing the sensor that goes with the fans first , this is normally the one giving problems.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya !

Connecting Projector to High Def Source (e.g. PS3 HDMI)

That projector supports M1-D also which is the digital side of the M1-DA... Anyway, they sell cables that are M1-D to HDMI to which you can hook directly to the PS3. They are decently priced too, less than $20. I know this thread is old, but I came across it due to an issue I am having with my xb31, broken color wheel. Trying to find parts...

My projector won't come on.

I answered this question many times. This is caused by a failed color wheel sensor. It faile gradually, first the lamp flickers, sometimes go dim for no good reason. Finally the lamp will not strike and you will get two red warning lights. I am factory trained and I stock the redesigned senor.
