I have a sony cyber shot camera model DSC-S90 and when I replaced the batteries, the camera turned on for a second, was on long enough for the battery light to flash on, then the camera turned off. The lens is stuck out and now the camera won't turn on. When I press the power button I see a yellow light and red light flash but nothing else. Now what?

  • Anonymous Aug 22, 2010

Ok, I managed to get the lens pushed back in, but now it still won't power up and the lens will not come out now. I guess it's time for the scrap yard. Thanks for your help.

Even though the outcome ended up in a new purchase, the solution was helpful. Thanks

Hi,

Unfortunately, this is a common problem on this model. Yet, no resolution other than getting it repaired.

There are a number of things you can try:

1. Ensure batteries are fully charged

2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand or other dirt etc

3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck

4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 2 minutes and refit

If no luck then we have to try some things that could possibly result in damaging your camera so should only be tried if happy to take that risk...

5. Try thumping the camera into your other hand, by thumping into your hand you are trying to jar the mechanism loose, by using your hand you will hopefully not do it too hard or it will hurt. You may need to do this a dozen or so times in different places to work. I have found the flat of the camera bottom into the flat of your hand best..

6. If the lens is stuck in the out position then remove the batteries and try twisting the lens first one way then the other, do not apply excessive force when doing this or you can break gears, you are trying to reposition not force... Likewise if the lens looks like it is crooked you can try pushing it back into position. This has a higher chance of doing more harm than the thump so please be careful...

7. Dismantle the camera, not for the faint hearted, you need to dismantle the lens assembly into the main body of the camera

If no luck then only other option is a serviceman I'm afraid, be sure to get a quotes as camera repairs can be uneconomical

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Thanks for your response!!

You could try to dissemble and see, if that works out well. Even if you open it, there is still no risk, as you have already lose it.

You could purchase a cost effective service manual from :-

    http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/8...

Try to repair. I have seen a success of around 30% with dissembling.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

PS - Do accept the solution,if 100% Satisfied from my response and close the thread.

Battery door won't stay closed on Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S90 Digital Camera

The battery door latch is most likely damaged/broken. Try using a piece of duct tape to keep it closed. I've done this on several cameras with battery door latch issues & the doors stayed shut just fine.

When i turn off my camera sony cyber shot DSC-S90 the zoom wont retract and a word appear in the screen turn off and on again..any idea what's going on with it?

Sounds like you have some grit or gum on the lens barrel. This will cause the lens to stick in the partly closed position. Clean the lens barrel and try again. A rag moistened with methylated spirits may be needed. The rag must not be wet as we must not harm the special grease used in the lens.
If this fails it probably means an very expensive repair, or replacement.

Wont turn on

I don't know if this will help, but try it. Install new batteries. You may have enough power to view the images, but not have enough power to operate everything. There are also microcomputers in the camera. You can also try removing batteries, WAIT 1 FULL MINUTE, then reinstall (making sure the polarity is correct). Hopefully either of these simple solutions help.
