It is possible that the water level sensor is not working to switch off the inlet valve. So drain out and check the water level sensor, it is a pressure switch and can be checked if the diaphragm is damaged.
This sensore is fitted on the drum and works as the water fills, the water enters the jacket and pushes the switch on.
Hope this tip helps you.

Washing machine overfills

Grab the tube off the water level switch that comes from the bottom of the tub and blow it out so that the sand in the bottom won't be blocking the operation, pump out the water, secure the tube tightly to the pressure switch and retry.aff8f03.jpg

GE washer does not agitate. Water does not stop filling.

If it does not agitate at all, then it is either the motor, the clutch/motor control or the agitator.

If the machine start agitating only when you advance manually the control knob, and at the same time is overfilling, that is probably because of the problem with the water inlet valve, or the water level switch, and that is also cusing the cycle to stop.
