Question about Panasonic CT-27G14 27" TV

1 Answer

27" (diagonal screen) Panasonic regular crt TV few years old, no serial # on front and too heavy for me to look at back. Picture comes on great, then a grey (NOT BLACK) screen covers 99% of screen with a very thin black horizontal line across the middle. Picture tube is fine, if I try to check anything, regular picture comes on,then switches to grey. Is this some kind of lock or what? The remote had corroded batteries in it. Any link? Please advise.

I do not believe that it has anything to do with the capacitor (overheating) BECAUSE, if we have the action image on the screen, and simply electronically move that image (rotate from "picture" to "timer" to "lock" or something else) the tv picture stays on the screen (behind the "action" image!) BUT you have to rotate it once a minute, because the grey screen/thin black horizontal line returns EXACTLY every 60 seconds, if you don't electronically rotate the action image (with the remote) . We watched the whole football game last night that way. The actual picture image is FINE. It is BEHIND the grey screen the whole time. It is as if there is some kind of LOCK on the picture and the curtain is pulled across the picture, exactly every 60 seconds if you don't interrupt the process. Does that still seem to be a capacitor to you?

It will be good to check the capacitor on the +B voltage that goes to the power section in the main board. A filter capacitor of about 47mF/160 V can be defective.
Next check the capacitor on the HT line to the grid-22mf/250V replace.
If possible loop on capacitors in the horizontal section particulary the IC.
Now the tip I can offer:
If the fault occurs on heating shcek out htis area to confirm and isolate the component.
But finally I understand that when you press any key the picture is good.If so check the memory IC/cmos IC in this section for logic control, it might be having a switching fault, a conflict or the video noise is coming on in default but goes off in the data selection mode. Do a soldering around this section on the IC , capacitor and see if the fault goes off or becomes irregular when this section is heated, if so there is a semiconductor producing this noise error .
So start from the begining so that we have a clean voltage inside.
I hope my advice helps.

My TV picture begins flickering with a bunch horizontal lines across the screen, then the pictures comes back and is fine for a while and then it happens again. We ruled out the DVR box and cable...

You have a vertical IC that is in need of resoldering. And you can bet you have a few weak capacitors very close to this IC that need replaced. And while you are at it, check for a high voltage cap that may be weak in the horizontal section. This would be the next step in saving this TV. If you or a hobbiest can pull this board you could probably do the repair. Use extra caution when you do this. Or best yet find a TV Tech!

I sorry to say I think you have a component failing that is related to heat. 15 years is a long time and if the TV was used in hpot conditions over the years it may well be the proble, or it's just old.

Picture is gone! :*(

the picture tube (what makes the TV picture work) has blown out. Just call you nearest tv reapair shop and purchase a new one. (these are kind of expensive!)

(Also, if it's fifteen years old, i think it's time to get a new T.V. hint. hint.)

RCA F27650 27" TV - Snow Bursts

The model you listed, F27650 uses the new ATC113 series chassis, which is only about 3 years old. The ATC113 chassis is not known to have snowy issues, but if yours is then I would suspect that a solder joint is loose in the tuner. If your set is actually around 9 years old, then it might perhaps have the notorious CTC175 - CTC187 series chassis, which went snowy all the time due to cracked solder joints on the shield grounds around the tuner and microprocessor. In either case, some good quality resoldering should cure your trouble. If you have never done fine solder work on PC boards with small surface-mount parts, allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.

You apparently have a high voltage arc. Possibly the anode lead to your picture tube. Also the flyback transformer could be arcing. If you're not experience with tv repair, you need to have a tech check it for you. The circuits operate at very high voltage and if you get into it you can get a possibly fatal electrical shock. Be careful !!! Stargazer

Picture tube doesn't turn off

The power relay driver or the relay itself is bad. Its sticking closed so the voltage is there for the power supply but the micro has turned off the tuner.
