I've done all that. The motor is working the pulley is turning but the drum is not spinning. I even tried to turn the drum with my hands but it does not turn either.

Hi. I will list a few check points to cover before I render my solution to fix the issue.

1. Make sure the load is balanced.
2. Check the belt for slippage
3. Check the drain outlet in the wall or floor for clogs.
4. Check the tub seal for a binded stated.(Page 7-3 in the manual provided)
5. Check the brake assembly for faults(partially engaged or stuck in the brake position)-(Page 7-13)
6. Check for any obstructions between the tubs(inner and outer)-(page 5-5)
7. Check the thrust bearings for proper adjustments.(Page 7-4)
8. Check the drain pump for a broken impeller.(Page 5-4)
9. Preform the torque test(On page 7-12 in the manual provided)

Inspect all that I have listed above and let me know the results. The service manual link is below. There are several causes for this situation. This is why i recommend to preform all test to isolate the culprit. These procedures will prevent you from purchasing a part you don't need. I suspect that the brakes are hung or the transmission is locked. It could also be worn thrust bearings, as well.

It could be something as simple as a broken belt, but also a more expensive fix like the transmission.

Also

There is a safety switch on the inside of your machine, right close to the upper rim of the tub. If you will look at your lid, you will see, usually, a small piece of plastic that fits in a slot when you close the lid. (Where the plastic pushes down on the switch.) It activates your washer. With the lid up, find the slot, and insert something non-metallic into the slot and push down. Hold it down. I used a pencil. Make sure that the machine is in the spin cycle. If it starts pumping water out and goes into the spin cycle, then this switch is your problem. It is very easy to change out. Sorry the instructions aren't any better. Good Luck

What would cause my maytag front load washer not to spin? It is a Maytag front load washer and it will not spin. The water drains out no problem just doesn't spin. Also the drum looks lower than it no

The drum bearings may have failed , Or the spin motor winding in the motor burnt out ,
Or the selector switch contacts are not engaging in spin cycle

My washer''s agitator spins but not the drum during spin cycle.

If you see the agitator moving, but not the tub..I guess, you have a defective transmission..this is tough without knowing a little more info.

You can hear water behind the drum when you spin

I don't believe you have a problem with your washer. It is NORMAL to have residual water in the drain lines and drain pump following a wash cycle. You will be able to hear the water sloshing around if you move the drum or drain lines. This is the lowest point of the drain cycle and gravity will ALWAYS cause some water to be there. As long as the water is not visible in the spin basket inside the drum, and the washer is properly draining during the wash and rinse cycles, you have nothing to worry about.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.

Maytag washer won't shift to rapid spin dry (only slow back & forth)

Hi Jim, you issue could be caused by a couple either one of a of the following,
1) Draining problem, cant empty the water from the machine within the prescribed time limit - preventing the spin programme to commence. check pump filter is clear and waste water is pumping from the end of the waste hose, the hose itself could be blocked with limescale and detergent residue.
2) Unbalanced load, most machines wont spin 1 item, its a safety thing, if a machine spins with one heavy item it puts the drum out of balance resulting in excessive drum movement possibly damaging the inside of the machine and put indue stress on the bearings. Try putting it on a spin cycle with no clothes in

Unbalanced load detection can also be caused by a faulty motor tacho, this usaually positioned at the rear of the motor, this sends an electrical signal to the programmer telling when it is 'Safe' to spin. There also the posibility that the programmer is not reading the tacho signal or misinterpriting it.
