Replace satellite keyboard

These days, laptop computers, like the Toshiba A305, are designed so that many of the components can be removed and replaced.

This includes the keyboard, which can be removed even if it becomes broken or damaged. This is good because it means you don't need to toss out the whole computer, but you may be worried about how to do it if you don't know much about computers.

The good news is that the process is fairly straightforward.

Turn off your Toshiba laptop and remove the power cable if it is attached.

Close the screen and turn your computer upside down.

Slide the rectangular battery out of its compartment on the underside of the computer.

Turn the keyboard right-side up and open the screen so you have full access to the keyboard. Locate the rectangular plastic frame just above the keyboard.

Insert the top of your screwdriver in the seam at the end of the frame where it meets the side of the computer, and gently pry the frame up.

Remove it from the computer.

Remove the two screws above the keyboard and set them aside.

Lift the keyboard up and unplug the thick ribbon cable where it connects at the back of the keyboard. Set the old keyboard aside.

Plug the cable into the port in the back of the new keyboard and fit the keyboard over the computer.

Replace the screws and bezel, and you're finished.

Hope this helps

Keyboard problem & it doesn't work prefect

If the keyboard has a round purple connector, power down the computer then unplug and then plug in the keyboard. Power on the computer. If it works your done if it doesn't replace the keyboard. If this is a USB keyboard, with the computer on, unplug and plug in the keyboard if it works great, if it still isn't working replace the keyboard. NOTE if this is a multi functional keyboard (special keys at the top) make sure you install the driver and any software associated with the keyboard.

WHY MY BIOSTAR G31-M7 TE mother board key board NOT WORKING ANY KEY BOARD?

Lets trace the problem here before we get to the solution. Check the keyboard on another computer to see whether the problem still exists. If the keyboard does not respond then the problem is with the keyboard. But if the keyboard works fine on another computer then the problem might be with the keyboard port of your computer. Now lets get down to the solution. If the keyboard doesnt work on both computers, firstly check the keyboard connecting pin. The pins inside it might have been bent, broken, pushed in or the pins have remained to the keyboard port on your computer. In the case of broken, bent or pushed in pins, REPLACE THE KEYBOARD WITH A NEW ONE. In the case that the pins have remained in the port of your computer, get a Computer Technician to remove the pin. If it can not be removed, then replace the keyboard with the usb one.

My computer is not acknowledging the numeric keyboard because I had to have another hardrive installed. What can I do? My keyboard came with my computer and is much better than the computer acknowledged...

If the keyboard has a round plug (PS/2) then it must be plugged in BEFORE you turn the computer on and make sure none of the small pins are bent or broken. PS/2 plugs are keyboard and mouse specific so make sure it is the keyboard port. Typically it is color-coded purple.
Make sure the Numbers Lock is engaged. There should be Num Lock button and many keyboards have a Num Lock light that turns on.
Try the keyboard on a different computer, it might been damaged when the hard drive was replaced.
Buy a replacement keyboard, the are really inexpensive online. I recommend www.newegg.com

If this helps please vote for my solution. Good luck!

Jarmy computer says keyboard failure

Hi there,

This means that your computer does not detect a keyboard plugged in it. Make sure the keyboard is properly plugged in. You may want to restart the computer and re-plug the keyboard. If this error still shows, try to plug the keyboard to another computer. If it works, then you have a defective keyboard port on your computer's board. You can just buy a usb keyboard just to be able to use your computer with keyboard again.

However, if when plugged into another computer and the keyboard failure still was detected, then you might have a defective keyboard that needs replacement.

Please let me know how this helps you. Thank you for using FixYa.

The letter k on my keyboard functions only when some pressure is applied the netbook is almost new and has been hardly used is it possible that the keyboard needs already to be replaced

Judging on your symptoms, it sounds like a replacement keyboard might be in order. If the machine is out of warranty, you can purchase replacement keyboards yourself.
Search "(computer model) keyboard" into eBay. You should see many products available for a reasonable price.
You should have a screw or two on the bottom of your laptop that have a keyboard icon next to them. Removing these screws should allow you pop the keyboard out and replace it. There is also a ribbon cable under there, so be careful when removing. For more info, search "replace (computer model) keyboard" in YouTube or a similar site. There should be many tutorials on keyboard replacement.
