Some how your router could of reset back to factory settings. In that case just use the default User/password for Linnksys to get into it.

In your address bar put 192.168.1.1

User: admin
Password: admin

Should let you right in.

Few others incase that does not work.
User:admin
Password: *leave blank*
------------
User:admin
Password: password

There are a few others but one of these should get you in.

Password problems.

Depending on the type of router, you could have various defaults set, if you never changed them.
You can press the reset button somewhere located on the router itself, using a pen/pin/pencil, and then google your brand of router asking what the default password is.
If it is a Linksys, you could google "Linksys default password" or "Linksys default login" for example.

I am trying to use my laptop via wireless with this Linksys wireless router. I can't figure out how to go about it. When I try to use the disc that came with it, it asks me for a password. Thank you...

Should not be any password in a new router but if there is a password your can simply bypass it by locating the reset button on the back on the router it should be a small red button that says reset. push it in for about 20 seconds and release that should give you access to the router. also you do not need the cd it is just a wizard that makes it somewhat easier, I suggest logging into your router and setting things up for yourself. just open a iE page and type the following ip in the url bar 192.168.1.1 that is the most common linksys ip. a small box will appear asking for a user name or password the default for most linksys are to leave username blank and admin for the password. this will take you into your basic settings in the wireless section give your network a name instead of leaving it as default linksys. after you have done that go to the security section and set up your security I suggest using a wpa or wpa2 encryption. after you choose your settings it will ask you to give the network a security key. put in a good long password that you can either write down or remember. check the box that says dhcp, hit save and thats it you now have a secure network set up. Hope this helps please reply if you have any other questions during the set up process

I forgot my securiy code phone?

is it phone password or router password. do you mean wep or wpa passwork? you can access these security key by accessing your GUI in you router. just open your internet browser and type in in the url 192.168.1.1 for "linksys" router or 192.168.0.1 for other router. then go wireless and wireless security. you can find there if your are using wep or wpa access key.
In case that you dont know the password of your router. reconfigure your LinkSys, connect a PC to one of it's Ethernet ports, load a web browser, and go to the URL http://192.168.1.1/. This will take you to a popup box which asks you to enter a username and password to login to your router. On older LinkSys routers, the default username is blank and the default password is "admin." On newer Linksys routers, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin."

I dont have a disk to install my wep key to stop people from stealing my internet

open a web browser window on the connected computer and type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar and press enter. A window will pop up prompting you for a username and password to access the configuration page for your router. Enter admin for both the username and password.

If it not accept then type user name Admin leave the password box blank and then click ok.

If it still does not accept it that means you have changed your user name and password of linksy.
To get your linksys default settings you will have to reset your linksys router by inserting a paperclip into the small Tiny hole into the back of the Linksys router for 10 sec.

Now you try to access router by user name and password which is mentioned above.

now you will have Linksys router page and now click on Security seetings on top

choose WPA PSK security settings

Now it will as you the security key

Enter any security minimum of 8 Characters anything you like.

click save settings on the bottom.

now try to connect to your Wireless network

it will ask you the security key

Enter your security and your wireless network is secured now.

here is also the Linksys Tech support no. as well. to know your exact user name and password of linksys and other details.

I want to password protect my router

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. If you want to make you connection secure the you need to set a Network Key on your router and need to access the Wireless Settings Page.

To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.1.1, the Default username is blank and the password is admin. Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security You can select either WEP, WPA or WPA2 to make it secure and under the Security Mode you will see there Network Key. The Network Key serves as a password or security code on your network to make it secure. Generate a personalize key for your network.

If this works dont forget to say thanks. Thanks for using Fixya.

I need to secure the network from my router ....how do i do this?

  • If you have forgotten your LinkSys router password, the easiest thing to do is to reset your router to the factory default settings.
To restore the router configuration to factory defaults, hold the reset button on the unit for 30 seconds

Once your router is hard reset, you will need to login and reconfigure it again.

  • To reconfigure your LinkSys, connect a PC to one of it's Ethernet ports, load a web browser, and go to the URL http://192.168.1.1/. This will take you to a popup box which asks you to enter a username and password to login to your router.
    LinkSys Default Password
On older LinkSys routers, the default username is blank and the default password is "admin." On newer Linksys routers, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin."
Once you are past the login screen, you are able to reconfigure the LinkSys router.
You want to go to the management tab and change the administrator password to something else to keep others from accessing your router.

  • After changing the administrator password then you will need to enable WEP or WAP security so your nosy neighbors aren't tapping into your wireless network. I am picking up 4 networks with my pc antenna.

I am trying to connect a new kindle to my existing wi fi (cisco linksys) but cannot remember the password I entered for my linksys.

I think you meant the access key password for your wireless security and not the password for the router itself (2 separate passwords).
I'll give you both solutions starting with the wireless key password.
    1. access the router configuration page by typing http://192.168.1.1 in your browsr. 2. This should pop up a log in window asking for user name & password 3. The default settings for a linksys router say to leave the username blank and type admin for the password. 4. once you're in look for the Wireless tab and click it then click on wireless security 5. your password will be listed there in the shared key box.
Now if its your router access password that you need you'll need to reset the router if you can't remember it and then follow the steps above to create a wireless security password. Here's how you reset the router. Remember that all custom settings you may have set will be erased and the router will go back to original factory configuration settings
    1. On the back of the router you'll find a small hole or indentation and it may or may not have the word reset printed by it. 2. Find a paper clip or something of the same size and use it to press the reset button for about 2-3 seconds 3. Router will be reset
    Good luck
