When you look on the box that the router came in, you have to look to see what Operating Systems it is compatible with. In many cases, routers will not be compatible with vista. I have a Linksys WRT300N, and it works great with Vista.Hope this helps.

For the computer/laptop to connect to the wireless router, the wireless card in the computer/laptop needs to be configured with the netgear's wireless settings eg. SSID and encryption etc.
It is not wise to leave your wireless router unsecured, anyone can access your network and Internet connection and use up your allocated download limit. Once you exceed your download limit you could be slug with addition charges - this depends upon your contract with your ISP. Sometimes firewalls on your computers can cause connection issues. I had the same problem with my home network. I had norton internet security 2008 on both systems, but the firewall settings on both computers had to be adjusted to allow the computers to talk. If you have different brand firewalls on each computer, you should consider to switching one of the computers so that it matches the other.
Another thing you want to do is log into the router's web utility and check to see if the wireless settings are blocking wireless connections in some way. You also want to make sure the ssid broadcast is enabled.
Finally, you really should consider using security on your router, so wireless connections would be password protected. I suggest wpa personal.
Hi,I am going crazy! Just moved house and took my Netgear Wireless router with me. However, even though the hard wired base unit works, my wireless laptop can't access the internet - even though a full stregnth signal is there when i browse for wireless connections. Using Vista Home Premium. Help appreciated!
this can happen sometimes, just go to network connections in control panel, right click on the wireless icon and click dissable (or press the rellevant button on your notebook)
Restart pc and then right click on the icon again and select enable.
There should be an icon in your taskbar, right click and select view network connections, and then see if your router is listed and click connect.
