Don't be fooled by all of the advertising hype. The three most important factors are the API rating, the proper viscosity, and the frequency at which you change the oil. I have never gotten less than 150K miles out of a car (I currently own 4, each with more than 150K miles) and I have never had any oil-related issues. There is virtually no sludge in my engines. Today you should look for an API rating of 'SN' for gasoline engines. I buy the cheapest 'SN' rated oil I can find and I change it every 3500 miles. Use the viscosity recommended in your owner's manual.

THE best oil is AMSOIL, but since it's $12/qt I now use Rotella T6 (synthetic) from Walmart

The best oil for Audi 1.9 TDI is CASTROL 0W30 SLX Longlife II (TDI Pump Nozzle) VW Norm 506.01 . This oil is issued by Castrol special for TDI - Pumpe Duse (Pump Nozzle) engine as longlife oil (50,000 km service interval, or two years).
Also a normal service oil (15,000 kmservice interval, or one year) is Castrol TXT 5W40, and Castrol EDGE 5W30, for TDI Pump Nozzle engines, VW Norm 505.01.

Oil pressure light comes on when engine warms up.replaced oil pressure switch .still the same . its an audi a3 2002

Dear John,
I am glad you only replaced that switch!
The best action to take for that symptom is to have a mechanic unscrew that O P switch and insert a oil pressure gauge and test the oil pressure with a meter, hot and cold.
If it is not up to par when hot, there are several possibilities.
1) If the oil is fresh & the right viscosity, you could have a failing or a leaking oil pump. It can leak inside the engine.
2) You may have a plugged up oil screen on the oil pump.
3) You may have a bearing or some other such part failing causing an engine oil hemorrhage inside the motor.
An authorized and helpful Audi dealership should be able to tell you if other Audis are having this problem and what is causing it.
God bless your efforts.

Audi a4 alt motor sounds like running on 3 cylinders

Robert your going have to check the oil pressure the oil pumps on these engines tend to let go. What happens the key way that drives the gear strips and at low rpms it doesn't pump oil to the top of the motor but when you rev it the gear spins a little faster that's why it makes less noise you will have to replace the oil pump. As for the missing the hydrolic lifters are no working properly because of the low oil pressure.

Audi:oil light came on, car won't start now...oil is showing full???

Check oil pressure sensor, if it is not working it will put your car in "Limp Mode" to protect the motor. If the sensor is working check the oil pump, it could have failed.

What oil i need for an audi A6 1.9 tdi with 100.000 miles on.I HAVE USE CASTROL MAGNATEC 10W 40 SO FAR BUT MY MECANIC TOLD ME NOT TO USE IT ANYMORE IT IS NOT SO GOOD WHAT SHOULD I USE?

I've come to love the 100% synthetic oil I put in my 1998 Audi A6 Quattro. My fuel range increased, by what % I'm not sure but it's defenitely better. All I've read about synthetics compared to conventionals solves the many questions I've had. I used to run only conventionals in my nCadilac Northstar engines till one day it blew up. I homestly believe the engine would haave never had been dameged if I wiuld have had 100% synthrtics in ig.

My engine oil light stays on

is the engine getting louder?  You most likely have a bad oil sending unit or a failed oil pump.  Have a pressure test done on the oil system.  If its low it's time for a new motor...or a new car.
Sadly, all my experiences with Audi's have been horrid.

Oil for 2007 AUDI A4 2.0t Quatro

The best balance of price, quality, availability that I have found is Mobil1 synthetic - it's on Audi's approved oils list. With the 2.0T engine, you absolutely want to use synthetic (the Audi turbo fours are known for oil sludge issues), and you want to do a SeaFoam treatment every 15k miles or so - that combination will keep your engine in great running shape.

Low oil pressue light at low rpm

wrong oil need 10w 40 weight caster oil is best. See right now you have thin oil and in hot weather and hot motor temp . It just gets thiner . now with 10w 40 you will bring it up a bit thus lowering the oil presser and bringing it to a happy medium .
