Question about Singer Sewing Machines

1 Answer

I have a model 327k singer machine - approx. 45 years old. Seems in good order overall but has just started to break the cotton from the needle and occasionaly mis feeds the thread when first setting up and jams in a muddle under the removable plate. Any ideas please? unfortunately the manual was lost years ago Regards John Hughes

I have a Singer 7466 and recently I developed an issue with the thread stripping and then breaking.

three possible reasons
old cotton will break or shred easily so get brand new cotton
next is eye size of the needle
a small eye with a heavy gauge cotton will not allow the cotton to pass easily
next is needle /hook timing
out of time allows the hook to pierce the needle thread and create the problem take it to a service centre for a check of the timing

How to the timing on a sewing machine

all sewing machines are the same a very simple. to adjust timing so the bobbin catches the thread, just slightly loosen screw on the main needle shaft(the one that has the needle and goes up and down), move the flywheel so that bobbin point is behind needle at lowest point, tighten screw. test it out. you cannot break the sewing machine, tho you can break a few needles as you master the timing technique. dont be afraid to try. it really is easy. one summer many, many years ago, while i was in college i worked for singer in a singer store. things havent changed since then. (almost 45 years ago). good luck

Singer featherweight 11 cotton keeps breaking

The top thread breaks
1. the needle thread is not threaded properly
2. The needle thread tension is to tight
3. The needle is bent or blunt
4. The needle is incorrectly inserted
5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew
6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing
7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle

I have a Singer 327K that stitches three or four good stitches and then stops completely stitching

it's very possible that when the needle broke the machine went out of time & would have to be retimed at a sewing machine shop

I have a very old singer model 15-1. It was my grandmother's machine and I've been using it for years with no problems. Recently I started having a problem. The thread seems to get stuck between...

take some unwaxed dental floss & clean between the disk gently
you can even use a can of air on that area also
check to make sure there are no loose thread or lint

it's also a good idea if you use it alot, to clean under the needle plate & in bobbin area for lint or loose threads

if these suggestions above do not stop the problem,, then the tension knob or spring might need to be replaced

Singer Overlocker/Sergers require particular threading order. If that does not help you may as I did have to take it to an Authorised repairer. It has to be a Singer Authorised as they have done training...

Sergers thread upper looper first, lower looper second, right needle third and left needle last in that order. If your thread breaks, CUT ALL THREADS and start from scratch or you will not get a good stitch or your machine may jam. It's probably just a "user error."
Good luck.

Needle jams and breaks off

Needle jams....Thread is caught in the hook...solution...Remove the upper thread and bobbin case, turn the handwheel backwards and forwards by hand and remove the thread remands.

Needles breaks
1. Needles is damaged..Insert new needle
2. The needle is not correctly inserted....insert flat side towards the back
3. Wrong needle size for the fabric...Choose a needle to suit the thread and fabric.
