Question about Intel SS4000-E (SS4000ENA)

Open Question

I have an Intel ss4000e with firware version 14 build 10 which i upgrade the hard drives to 4 x 1.5 Tb drives configured as Raid 5 with no spare. NIC 1 configurred with static IP and NIC 2 to optain IP from DHCP server. The disk are indicated as yellow and everything appears normal, but I cannot copy anything to the NAS from a Windows 7, Windows XP or Wondows Home Server. The NAS' network connection jams and it cannot be switched off. This happens on both NICs (no simultaneous NIC connections).

SOURCE: Can't see the folders after restarting SS400-e

document.write("Version 1.4 build 709 firmware for the IntelĀ® Entry Storage System SS4000-E.

Systems running firmware versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3 will not be able to upgrade to the 1.4 firmware using the Advanced -> Firmware feature in the web management console interface.

Upgrading from a previous version of the firmware is a ?data destructive? process due to the new structure of the firmware and supporting disk drives greater than 500GB. If you choose to upgrade to version 1.4 it is strongly recommended that you first backup your existing data to another system in your environment. It is also recommended that you understand your current configuration of users, groups and shares to be able to recreate this under the 1.4 firmware.

Once you have backed up your data and can recreate your users, groups and shares, you can proceed with the upgrade process. To upgrade your system to version 1.4 firmware, please follow the procedure described in the Release Notes.

Note: This operation will completely erase the shared folders and backup data, i.e., THIS PROCEDURE WILL REMOVE ALL DATA ON THE DRIVES.

SOURCE: unable to connect

When the LED turns continuous amber colored , it means your RAID is not yet initialized.

- Install the Intel Storage system center console (ISSC) software from the accompagnied cd-rom

- Start the ISSC and have it discovering your storage device (make sure you are in the same subnet as your NAS device)

- Once it discovered the device click "Log on storage console" , it will open up a browser and have you login.

Firefox should work , I however assume you are maybe in a different subnet , and therefore cannot open the page.
If FireFox really doesn"t work , try using IE !

SOURCE: I have installed the Intel

The drive labelled Intel MegaSR SCSI Disk Device must be the Raid drive, which would mean it is installed. It probably just needs a Drive Letter assigned to it.

  1. Open the Start Menu, and then click Run.
  2. Type in diskmgmt.msc and then hit enter or OK.
  3. In the Disk Management window look for your Virtual RAID Drive. If the Raid drive is listed in the Disk Management windows, it will need a drive letter assigned to it to show up in My Computer.
  4. Right click on the Raid Drive, and select Assign Drive Letter or Change Drive Letter.

How to set up a Raid 5 on a MSI A88XM-E35?

Your motherboard does support RAID:
"SATA1~6 ports support RAID 0/1/5/10 modes by AMD A88X"
Source: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/A88XME35.html#hero-specification

However, software RAID isn't supported in Windows 7 home premium. So are you asking how to setup the RAID array using the hardware support provided by your motherboard or are you looking for software RAID support?

I need a diagnostic tool for RAID falure code 0. Initial boot indicates degraded condition. DISK scan does not seem to remedy the issue. Did the drive actuually fail? Is there a fix? Primary disk still...

It looks like you have two arrays here. The first one being a mirrored RAID array and has only one disk. This means that the other disk has failed in some sort. This does not mean that the drive is bad, just the RAID failed for some reason. You will need to rebuild the RAID if you want to maintain the same level of redundancy.

You can just attempt a rebuild the RAID to the same drives but if this fails you will want to replace the bad drive. In order to do this you will need to make sure you can tell which drive is which. You do not want to mirror the bad drive to the good one.

If attempting a rebuild to the existing drive does not work or is not an option (because the failed drive could really be bad), you will need to determine which physical drive needs to be replaced. You may be able to hot-swap the drive but if you can power things down, that is always safest. Once the new drive is installed, you can rebuild to it and all should be well after that.

CAn I disable RAID on a DEll powervault 770n server

Its called the JBOD RAID option - just a bunch of discs.

I don't know of any system that makes a RAID array an operational imperative, I would say the answer to your question is yes.

RTFM.

Want to run both Raid 5 (4 drives) and a single SATA boot drive

Download the latest beta BIOS 1238. I had the same problem when adding a Samsung 1TB HDD to my RAID config. Updating to BIOS v1238 solved the Intel RAID Matrix "hanging" instantly.

You can't download it through the official Asus support page yet, but there's a topic in the Asus support forum with a link. You could also call Asus support and request the file, or just download it here: http://rapidshare.com/files/186891601/P5B-Deluxe_1238.rar :)
