The safe code to your radio is located in the spare tire compartment. It is a four digit number printed on a white sticker in the inside of the spare tire storage

After you find it, write down that code number and follow the steps below to get your radio working again

1. Turn on the Radio. "Safe" will appear in the display.
2. After 3 seconds, the number "1000" will appear in the display.
3. Use the radio station preset buttons 1 to 4 to enter the code number you have written down

Use preset button 1 to enter the first digit in the code number. Use button 2 to enter the second digit, etc. The value range for each of the 4 digits is "0-9". The digit will increase by 1 each time you tap the preset button. The number returns to "0" after 9"

4. After you finish entering the code, press the right side (">") of the SEEK button for longer than 2 seconds until you hear an audible signal

5. If you have entered the code number corectly, "LSM" wll appear in the display. (I just was the radio channel indicator and then everything was working as usual).

If the wrong code number is entered twice, the unit will be disabled for one hour. Leave the unit on and the key in the ignition swithch for this hour if it locks up on you

My vw golf tenacity battery went flat replace now my radio is blocked on safe mode and showes two

When you disconnect your battery and then reconnect it again, it disables the radio. This is an anti-theft protection for your car radio.
The enable your radio the activation code is in your vehicle owner's manual. If you do not have this code you need to go to your VW service centre and get them to enter this code for you.

My 1998 vw beetle its stuck on 2 safe mode i need help getting that out thanks

First of all you should exit from 2 safe mode. Then turn ON the radio and let it turned ON for at least one hour, in order to exit from 2 safe mode.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
You must have the security anti-theft code for your VW radio from the car manufacturer, or from a VW dealer!

You can find the radio code at: http://www.radio-code.co.uk/

The sequence of VW radio programming is:
1. Push simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys until on the screen will appear "1000" displayed.
2. Release keys. No more push on "SCAN" and "RDS" keys because otherwise number "1000" will be considered as first safe code attempt.
For example: we have the security code "5079". Then:
3. By the no.# 1 key you will set up the first safe code digit. Push 5 times on the no.# 1 button. The "5" number will be setted.
4. By the no.# 2 key you will set up the second safe code digit. Push 10 times on the no.# 2 button. The "0" number will be setted.
5. By the no.# 3 key you will set up the third safe code digit. Push 7 times on the no.# 3 button. The "7" number will be setted.
6. By the no.# 4 key you will set up the four-th safe code digit. Push 9 times on the no.# 4 button. The "9" number will be setted.
7. Then push again simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys for confirm this safe code. On the screen will be displayed "SAFE" notice. Release keys! For few seconds a radio frequence will be displayed.

The radio is now ready for use!

The radio is in SAFE mode....

It has to be the wrong code. You have to take in to the VW dealership, (because of so many stolen radios), they will have to verify your registration. Then they will remove your radio, get the serial number put it in to VW hub<( dealership only VW repair site), and retrieve the correct code. Even though the code shown is in your owners manual should have been the correct code sometimes radios get switched. Question at the end you said you pressed seek- did you hold the right lower arrow button, (scan), in till radio began to play?

2000 VW Beetle - had to jump the battery and when it restarted the radio doesn't work and the fuses are not blown and it doesn't show SAFE or anything on the radio.

2000 Beetle radio has a 10amp fuse at its rear left. have to remove radio to get to it. removing and returning radio is not easy. let me know if you need help with that as i have done this repeatedly on two different 2000 beetles and finally have it downpat. of course you need radio code, have found an article on how to disable VW radio anti-theft code but have not tried it yet.

Radio in safe mode

OK do you have the radio in your hands? IF not you have to remove it using the special tools slotted to unlock it and pull it out. The radio serial is etched into it but you have to remove it to see. With this and the car's serial and proof of ownership VW can get the radio code for you. Or they'd be happy to remove it for you as well and get the other info themselves.
