try checking your router settings to see if you ran out of ip addresses to give out and also check to see if all of your other information on your ps3 is correct such as your subnet mask.

Can you tell me what an ip addresse is im trying to connect to xbox live and it keeps asking for ip addresse

Every device connected to the public internet is assigned a unique number known as an internet protocol (IP) address. IP addresses consist of four numbers separated by periods(also called a 'dotted-quad') and look something like 127.0.0.1

since these numbers are usually assigned to internet service providers with region based blocks, an IP address can often be used to identify the region or country from which a computer is connecting to the internet. an IP adress can sometimes be used to show the users general location because the numbers may be tedious to deal with, an IP adress may also be assigned to a host name, which is sometimes easier to remember hostnames may be looked up to find IP adresses, and vice-versa. at one time ISPs issued one IP adress to each user. These are called static IP addresses. beacuse there is a limited number of IP adresses and with increased usage of the internet ISPs now issue IP adresses in a dynamic fashion out of a pool of IP addresses (using DHCP). these are referred to as dynamic IP addresses. This also limits the ability of the user to host websites mail servers, ftp servers, etc. in addition to users connecting to the internet with virtual hosting,a single machine can act like multiple machines (with multiple domain names and IP addresses).

This sucks

try to check the right ip address by connecting it first to your computer, check the ip address on your command prompt ( if you are using windows platform ) then type ipconfig /all

take note of your gateway, dns server, ip address ( so that your in the same network ) and the subnet mask.

DSi says that duplicate IP addresses exist and to check my DHCP settings

I got this same error using a Linksys WRT54GS.

On the basic setup page, under Network Setup>Network Address
Capture(lefemenu.dhcpserverset)Server Settings (DHCP), I changed the Starting IP Address from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.110 and amazingly it worked.

Ip address fails test connection

you need to set your 360's network to automatically detect your settings if you have other devices hooked up to the airport and they work it is not the Airport.

When it says IP address failed it has nothing to do with comcast it is your LAN having issues not your WAN

Xbox 360 to Linksys wireless modem...

OK I think the easiest way to connect the xbox to the linksys, is if you configure your XBOX to have a static IP address, because the xbox will not have to pick an IP address every time you connect to the internet using the Linksys router and will not have conflicts with other PCs on your house, if you have any. What the linksys does is to convert your Public IP addres into a Private IP address, so example if your ISP gave you an IP address of: 209.235.205.30 that is your IP address for you, then the Linksys converts that number (NAT) into a private IP address so it can be share with many computer inside your house using a single Public IP address. The Linksys always transform it into 192.168.1.?=any number between 1-256 thats the defaults IP address from the manufacturer but you can change it if you want. Ok enough info about NAT or IP jeje.

Where going to use the default IP addres for an easier setup.

First: On your XBOX 360 dashboard go to SYSTEM, then Network Settings, then Edit Settings, then choose the option manual, here put the IP address= 192.168.1.33 (if 33 doesn't work use another numer like 20 or 45 just pick a number between 2 and 250) ; Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0 ; Gateway = 192.168.1.1; DNS options put Automatic. And see if it connects. If it doesn't work just post it here, any problem that you have.

It keeps asking me for my id address were is it ?

If your console has an option to "enable DCHP" that will let it find out it's IP Address automatically.

If this does not work then goto a PC connected to the same network and click start then run (for Vista just type the following into the search bar at the bottom of the start menu) then type (without the quotes) "cmd"

At the black window that appears type "ipconfig /all" (again, without the quotes).

This will list a load of stuff with a line looking something like

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.5

You'll get one for each connection you have on your PC. (Wired, Wireless, Bluetooth etc)

To invent an IP Address for your console keep the first 3 numbers the same and pick a reasonably large number below 254 for the last one. For example, in this case I could pick 192.168.1.156. Use this as the IP Address on the console. If it complains about "IP Address Conflict" or "IP Address already in use" then you've picked a number already in use - just pick another. Unless you have 250+ PC's in your house, there will be at least one free number!

Other valid IP Addresses you might see in the black window could be similar to:

10.0.0.5
172.16.0.5

There are plenty of other "ranges" of numbers and if your PC has an address not starting 192 or 10 or 172 then you have a more complicated set up and may need further help!

Hope this helps,
