SOURCE: will not open

Hi there,

Sounds like the drive belt may have slipped off or snapped. You can open the tray manually. To do this, take a look at the front of the drive where the open button is, and there should be a small hole, just big enough for the blunt end of a sewing needle. This is the manual release.

The other thing is, it might just be catching on the case (may have been knocked at some point). Disconnect and remove the drive, then just put it back in. If you have a desktop, you can remove the front panel of the drive and re-attach it.

Hope those solve the problem

Regards,
Tim

SOURCE: needs driver for vista or win 7 Sony VRD-VC10

Sony does not support this burner for any operating system for Win2k and XP. The VRD-VC30 is supported in Win7 but no earlier models (from the Microsoft Compatibility Center). The Vista Compatibility Center lists the VRD-VC20 as unknown for Vista support.

There are work-arounds. Install XP as a virtual computer or in a dual boot configuration on your system and install the hardware on the "XP box". If you have Win7 Pro or Ultimate, you can download and install the XP mode for a free virtual computer. (This requires you to download two programs from Microsoft and install them (Virtual PC and the XP mode itself). Otherwise, you will need a valid XP license to install in the virtual computer software. The dual boot may work better for you since virtual computers can't share files from the main computer directly. They need to be transfered to external media or a different partition or disc that unmounted from the real computer and mounted on the virtual computer.

I hope this helps.

Ah, the Dual-Layer Problem. Well, first off, you bought an LG. Problem solved!!! ASUS, Pioneer, TSSCorp, Sony, ASUTek USA, or any other brand OTHER than LG is good for burning Dual-Layer DVD's. And for God's sake, LEARN how to use Nero Ultra Edition for your burning needs. It has a technology called "BUFFER." you should really read up on that bro.

This model of computer does not have a blu-ray drive unless you got a third party upgrade. In this case, you will need to track down special drivers, which can best be done by whomever sold you the drive.

Door will not open

Straighten a paper clip, locate the little hole in the drive door, insert the paper clip and give a little push on it. This is a release button in the event you can't power up a computer. If it still does not open you will probably need to replace it, getting it repaired will be just as much if not more probably.

Will Not reconise Cd or DVD in the Drive

Yes, this drive is basically dead. You can find pretty cheap prices for new drives at www.pricewatch.com
If the drive door closes on a cd or dvd that you want and it will not open back up, use a straightened paperclip and push it into the little hole near the door on the drive, the door will pop open then.

You need to buy an external DVD RW, you will be able to watch and record DVD and CDs on your Eee.
Here is a lelection, they start from $40
Cheap ones are usually big, probably bigger than your Eee, here are a couple of nice pocket model

Addonics Pocket DVD+/-R/RW - DVDâ±RW drive

External Dual Layer DVDâ±RW Drive

LG LightScribe External DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Slim

Targus PACMB010U DVD/CD-RW Drive

Let me know if this had been helpful.

Sony vrd-vc10 drive door

Right on the drive you will find a small hole, take a pin and press it a little bit, it will open up the DVD tray for you. Sometimes the drives are just locked by some software, this is the best way to release your stuck cd or dvd.

Hope that helped!
