Question about Canon PIXMA MX310 All-In-One Printer

1 Answer

Hi. I had a problem with my Mac & disconnected my printer to take the Mac in. They did something called an "archive & reinstall" (I think) at the Apple Store. When I re-hooked everything up the computer started looking for a driver. I have misplaced my CD that came with the printer. Is there a way to download free install software? Thanks. Kirsten

Hello:
Yes go to canon website www.canon.com and look under support for drivers and software. Here you will be able to download the software for your printer.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Hi Ruben The ? means that the computer cannot find a valid start-up folder. You need to insert your installation CD/DVD and restart the computer. After a while it will start up from the CD.after selecting the language you wish to use, go up to the menus and find Disk utility.Run it and tell it to repair the disk.If it fails you may have to reinstall your system (do the archive & Install option)If that fails then you probably have a failed HD

I think there are 6 ways (at least?) to connect this printer:
(1) Direct to Mac (or PC) via USB Cable (2) Direct to Mac (or PC) via Ethernet Crossover Cable(3) Ethernet to router/switch, with Mac/PC also via Ethernet to router/switch(4) Ethernet to router/switch, with Mac/PC via WiFi (802.11 wireless)(5) WiFi to router, with Mac/PC via Ethernet to router/switch(6) WiFi to router, with Mac/PC also via WiFi.
As (1) should be simplest, tried this first. First document would print instantly and completely, next doc would hang in queue with unexpected msg, "Printer is offline." Only way to print 2nd doc was to power cycle (off-on) the printer. This problem occurred whether 2nd doc was sent to printer before or after 1st doc had printed. Tried 2nd USB cable, tried new driver, tried reinstalling printer; same problem. Spoke to both Samsung and Apple support, including both on a conference call; never got this to work and never clarified if problem was in printer hardware/software, driver, or something else. Both companies now showing this issue as unresolved.
Nothwithstanding USB problem, did succeed in modes (4) and (6), although custom wireless config needed since my network does not broadcast SSID and requires an encryption password. Procedure required connecting first via Ethernet, obtaining Configuration Report by holding down orange button for 5 seconds, then using browser to connect to the printer's IP address. Also required different driver for wireless config (as opposed to USB).
Bottom line: What seemed simple - USB direct connect - proved unworkable, but wired and wireless network config works fine.

Hi Dear Can use xerox DC12 with MAC OS without

There are some Mac OS drivers.I think your printer is not compatible with Mac.

The level of functionality and compatibility with the new Mac OS X 10.6 drivers are identified in the following document.

I shut down my laptop when it was installing updates and now every time I turn it on it tells me to "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the restart...

It sounds like you shut the computer down when it was installing a critical update (firmware upgrade etc.) and you are now getting a kernel panic. Unfortunately i am unable to do much but you may need to reinstall Mac OS X and perform an 'archive and install' installation. This dumps the previous system in a folder called previous system and installs a fresh copy of Mac OS X (You may also want to choose to preserve your user and network settings). the other option is to take it to an apple repair centre
Good Luck!

I was given an old emac g4. it worked ok, slow but worked. the dude that gave it to me had all his files in one directory, i moved some desktop items to make room for photoshop. now the box turns on ok,...

If you are not concerned about any of the files on the computer, I suggest just wiping it and reinstalling the OS from the original software discs - this will ensure there's absolutely no issues with the files on the computer. If you are concerned about saving data, this could get tricky - as it sounds like you've moved something in the user that the OS needs to boot. If that's the case, there's an "archive and install" option when you go to install, more info on that here. When performing this archive and install, be sure not to check-mark the box that says "preserve users and settings", as the user is corrupted - what it will do is stick the user in a folder on the drive called "previous systems", and you can access the data later from the new user created during the repair installation.

Good luck!

My Hp Deskjet F4200 series printer will not scan anything to my computer, but it will copy just fine. How can I get it to scan? I have already uninstalled the printer driver & reinstalled it. It says...

Check to see that your Scanner drivers have been installed. Click on Start, then Printers and Faxes and see if a Scanner is listed. If not, you need to install the drivers.

Also, when you uninstall the printer drivers, you first need to disconnect the printer from the computer, and unplug the printer from the power source. Leave the printer unplugged for at least 15 minutes to clear the printer's cache memory.

Next, go to Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel and uninstall the printer software. Then, turn off your computer.

Next, reboot your computer. Place the Deskjet cd in the drive and follow instructions for reinstalling the printer software and drivers.
CAUTION: DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR PRINTER CABLE TO YOUR COMPUTER UNTIL PROMPTED BY THE INSTALL DISK!!

The dock went missing from the screen

It sounds like something went wrong with the install. the Archives option, saves your current system folder and makes another one. After you restore there should be a folder named "previous operating systems" or something like that.

I don't think there is a way around it.
