Older VCR--I have one like it. You need to remove top cover and bottom shield, look for one of the belts to be either broken or off.

There are places on the net where you can buy a belt kit, includes all belts and most are easy to replace--they get old and sloppy with age.

If this has helped you rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

I concur with SD Tech: one common cause is a worn belt that has become too loose due to age. One of my Mitsubishi VCRs was exhibiting this exact same problem: insert tape, it gets ejected right away.
The belt I had to replace is the one that pulls tape out of the cassette when the cassette has been fully loaded into its final position. The belt is usually on the bottom of the drive chassis.

Is the tape fully re winded? Check the tape to ensure it is not hung up, turn the tape manually to see if you are able to get it to move. It is possible the tape could be hung and therefore the VCR can not turn it and assumes the tape is at the end and ejects/turns off in this case.

If that is not the case, are you able to put the tape in and quickly re-wind or fast-forward with out the VCR acting up? If so, try to re-wind or fast-forward it and if it does "while the tape is playing....and showing picture on the screen" then continue to push play and see if that has any effect.

If not, then most likely your VCR has become faulty.

Hope that helps.

Power off when inserting vhs tape

I had this problem when copying an old family vhs tape. I had to unscrew the top of the magnavox to access the vhs tape. Then, I gently removed the tape and replaced the cover. After winding the tape back, I put it in the player and immediately pushed fast forward for about 3 seconds before hitting play followed by d.dubbing. I was able to make a copy of the tape and did not damage my original.

Power goes off when a cassette is inserted. Tried cleaning heads but it won't even run that. When power is turned back on the cassette is immediately ejected.

Good day!!!

Most common problems
  • VCR refuses to FF or REW and shuts off.
  • VCR shuts off entering PLAY or REC or at random during PLAY or REC.
  • VCR eats tapes.
  • VCR doesn't accept tapes or ejects them without cause.
  • Sound is wavery, fluctuating, or muddy.
The cause for all of these is very often a bad idler tire or other dirty, worn, or tired rubber parts

VCR continually tries to eject the tape after it is inserted

If you have cleaned the head with a good head cleaner and you are still having a problem...the belt is probably worn. A good head clean should fix the problem.

Tape Ejects Immediately

There are normally 2 causes. One is some obstruction in the tape path. Please open the cover of the VCR and shake and see for foriegn objects. Nothing??? Then there is one more possibility - Belts are loose.. Check the Tape Loading motor belt.Is it slack? This can happen over time.Change the belt.
