Replace satellite keyboard

These days, laptop computers, like the Toshiba A305, are designed so that many of the components can be removed and replaced.

This includes the keyboard, which can be removed even if it becomes broken or damaged. This is good because it means you don't need to toss out the whole computer, but you may be worried about how to do it if you don't know much about computers.

The good news is that the process is fairly straightforward.

Turn off your Toshiba laptop and remove the power cable if it is attached.

Close the screen and turn your computer upside down.

Slide the rectangular battery out of its compartment on the underside of the computer.

Turn the keyboard right-side up and open the screen so you have full access to the keyboard. Locate the rectangular plastic frame just above the keyboard.

Insert the top of your screwdriver in the seam at the end of the frame where it meets the side of the computer, and gently pry the frame up.

Remove it from the computer.

Remove the two screws above the keyboard and set them aside.

Lift the keyboard up and unplug the thick ribbon cable where it connects at the back of the keyboard. Set the old keyboard aside.

Plug the cable into the port in the back of the new keyboard and fit the keyboard over the computer.

Replace the screws and bezel, and you're finished.

Hope this helps

Screen repair manual

Basically you start by removing the rubber bumpers located at the 4 corners and along side the plastic strip that goes around the lcd screen. One they are removed you can remove the screws that hold the plastic strip. Use your finger to pry the plastic strip off.

Next you start removing the screws that hold the lcd screen on the sides. Then tilt the lid forward and the screen will fall into your hand. Don't let it fall down on the keyboard because there is a cable in the back of the lcd screen that you will need to remove. The cable might have a piece of tape at the connections to make it secure.

If the screen does not fall down then you might have screws at the 4 corners that are holding it, so remove them.

Below is a link to a video on how to do it.

How do you replace the monitor on a Gateway NV53A24U Laptop?

Hi there and welcome to Fixya!
Please follow the steps below to replace the LCD screen on your laptop.
1. Power off your laptop . Turn the laptop upside down so that you can see the bottom side of the laptop's case. 2. Depress the battery release latch and lift the battery and laptop ac adapter out of the laptop. Flip the computer back over and open up the LCD screen to a 90 degree angle. 3. Pull off each of the rubber buttons located along the edges of the Gateway NV53A24U Screen. Remove each of the screws underneath the buttons with the Phillips-head screwdriver, remove keyboard. 4. Insert your fingers underneath the cover of the Gateway NV53A24U Screen. Work your fingers around the edges of the cover to unlock it from the screen. Pull the cover off the screen and set it aside. 5. Locate the inverter board at the bottom edge of the Gateway laptop screen . Disconnect the cables at the right and left end of the board that connect to the Gateway NV53A24U Screen. Remove the screw holding the inverter board in place and then lift the board off the LCD screen. 6. Tilt the screen slightly towards you until you can see the strip of tape holding the video cable. Pull off the tape and then disconnect the video cable from the laptop case. 7. Remove the Gateway NV53A24U LCD screen from the case. Set the new screen onto the case and reattach the video cable and tape strip. Position the replacement inverter board at the bottom of the screen and attach the screw. 8. Reconnect the inverter board's cables. Pop the plastic cover onto the Gateway NV53A24U LCD screen and reconnect the screws. Set the rubber buttons over the screws. Reconnect the battery. 9. Turn on the laptop. Wait for the manufacturer's logo to appear on the screen to ensure the display was replaced properly.
Hope this helps. Thanks!

How do you replace a laptop screen l555d serial number...its a toshiba.

1. Turn off the computer and remove the battery.
2. Loosen the plastic frame bordering the Toshiba Satellite L555D-S7005 Screen. This frame is attached to the notebook's back shell and holds the screen in place. Pry open two to six small rubber seals from the frame and undo concealed screws.
3. Detach the frame after removing all screws. Hold the bezel from either side of the screen and gently pull it away from the screen and toward you. If the bezel seems to be stuck, find any points of attachment, such as clips or hooks, and undo to detach it from the outer shell. Work with your fingers and go all around the frame to release and completely detach it.
4. Free the LCD panel from its position in the notebook's lid. When you remove the bezel, you will notice that the screen is held in place, enclosed in hinges. Undo screws from either side of the screen to release its attachment to the lid. Place a finger at the top center of the screen to keep it from falling down as you remove the screws. With all screws undone, tilt the panel and lower it face down onto the keyboard.
5. Disconnect the power cable and video cable from the screen. The power cable connects the screen's power source of the lcd inverter to the backlight lamp attached to a side of the panel. Unplug cables from either end of the inverter board and unscrew the board from the base of the screen. Next, find and unplug the video cable a broad, ribbon like arrangement taped to the back of the panel. Pull at the plastic head of the cable to detach it.
6. Remove the screen. With the screen's cables unplugged and inverter board removed, it is completely detached from the notebook's display assembly and may be safely removed. Pick up the panel from the keyboard and keep it to a side.
7. Orient the replacement screen by bringing it to the work area and aligning it to the laptop's shell. Gently rest the screen on the keyboard and attach the power cable and the video cable. Raise the screen and attach the inverter board to its base. Plug in the inverter board's cable to the screen's backlight lamp. Screw the screen in place and reorganize the display assembly.

Harddrive

dr. geek is partly right:

at the bottom you'll find the 2 RAM-memory slots for the SD-RAM 144-PIN modules

(the bigger one in the center, 2 screws)

to access harddisk and cmos battery:

follow the instructions:

you will need:
a slim x-screw-driver
a sharp knife with a slim blade and
a cup or else for the screws, don't loose them!
a new c-mos bios battery model: CR-1220 (exchange it while your in there!)

you find c-mos battery and hdd under the keyboard!

- turn off the power, remove accu and charger cable, for static electricity is friendly fire
to your laptop now !

- open your screen to max. fold (angle of 180 degrees)

- look for removable plastic part near to left holder of screen
- carefully remove it
- also remove plastic panel right to it in the section between display holders
metal should be visible now
- carefully! remove keyboard, starting at the left side, continuing topside
as you won't be able to fully remove it, simply turn it over
- unscrew any screws holding the metal plate, remove it
- now you see: left the CPU plus cooler, top right middle the hdd still in an adapter attached
to the mainboard, at it's lower right the C-MOS battery (g
- turn loos these screws
- carefully remove the frame/adaptor holding the hdd
- unscrew again the adaptor
- seperate hd fram adaptor

... and gotcha!

be careful to get a proper notebook hd (samsung or such)
exchange CMOS-battery by chance
reattach new hd to frame, again carefully!

to reassamble: rewind the procedures
put everything back in place

replug, pray and turn on the lappie.

wish you luck.....

LCD replacement

The LCD screen is fixed to the base of the laptop with screws at the hinges.
Some screws are hidden behind small stuck on plastic covers, you need a thin sharp blade to lift them to reveal the screws. The frame around the LCD screen most likely held in place by plastic clips or stuck on with double sides tape. Slide a spatula between the LCD and frame and gently prize the frame free, take care not to break the plastic frame.
Once you remove the frame there are screws that fix the LCD to the lid of the laptop.
You need to lay the screew flat to unclip the plastic cover to expose the hinges and the video cable between the screen and motherboard. There are usually screws holding this cover in place.

Repeating 's' key

Well...slightly different :) The reason is still the same. The solution is slightly different.

The keyboard for almost all laptops is also a plug-in and is separate from the rest of the unit. You usually have to remove the front frame from the screen to remove the top frame for the keyboard and the laptop. Screws to do this are often covered by stick-on circles of plastic or rubber. They may even be covered by labels on the back. This helps the manufacturer know if it has been tampered with to determine warranty. If it is out of warranty then do whatever needs to be done.

Removing the frame around the keyboard there will be screws holding it to the bottom frame or motherboard. Once you have removed these then there is a flat mylar cable that is connected to the motherboard, usually at the top. Putting your thumb and index finger around the connector, pull towards the keyboard. It should slide just a fraction of an inch and the flat mylar cable will be free. So will the keyboard. Now, you might be able to take the keyboard apart from the back (lots of small parts may fall out!) You can look for anything spilled or any debris on the part and try to clean it. You can use rubbing alcohol to remove any obvious spills (Coke or other cola products are especially an issue).

Connect it back up (push the cable back in the cable and reverse the process. You don't have to put back on all the frames to try it.

If the keyboard is still having problems try to get a replacement on ebay. The most expensive part of a laptop is the screen (around 200 to 500 usually). I got an entire non-working laptop (just for parts) for $75 once. You should ask the seller if the keyboard was working before you buy it. Good luck, hope this helps.
