first check whether the device is working on another computer. if it is then there are driver issues on the computer you got this message from. if not then your casing interface is not working right. you can get the data off the hard drive by removing the casing and plugging the drive to a desktop computer.

How do network cards work?

A network card is the physical interface between the computer and cable. It converts the data sent by the computer into a form which can be used by the network cable, transfers that data to another computer and controls the dataflow between the computer and cable. It also translates the data coming from the cable into bytes so that the computer's CPU can read it. This is why a network card is an expansion card inserted into an expansion slot.

Hi, i want to no, what is 1394 on motherboard and if the usb cable in the front write 1394, i install it like a regular usb cable?????

It is Firewire port/ Interface. The IEEE 1394 interface is a serial bus interface standard for high-speed communications and real-time data transfer, frequently used by personal computers, as well as in digital audio, digital video applications etc. The interface is also known by the brand names of FireWire (Apple), i.LINK (Sony), and Lynx (Texas Instruments). This is not as widely used.It works just like USB but it is meant for connecting Firewire capable devices. If you have any firewire capable device (like video camera)and firewire cable, you can connect the device to your PC and use it for high speed data transfer.

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

The hard drive isnt showing up on any of my computers and says it needs to be formatted had it for about a yer and half now

The problem may be on the interface board inside the drive enclosure. The drive itself may be all right. You would need to remove the drive and connect it as a secondary drive inside the computer to test it. If it's working you can copy your data from it.

You didn't say if there was data on the drive? If there is and you have the same problem on ALL PC's then most likely either the USB interface is faulty OR the Hard Drive Or Both. You need to remove the drive from housing and Test it by either connecting up if SATA/IDE to say an internal SATA/IDE connection inside the PC if desktop, or by using a USB - Hard Drive "Dongle" If it still doesn't work, the drive is faulty. IF it does, then that would indicate the USB interface is.

Why do i have to use a usb to be alble to print

The printer has to receive "data" and "commands" from your computer. The USB interface is used to transmit what the printer needs to receive. Other possible data-transfer interfaces, e.g., wireless, or parallel, may not be installed in your printer.

Data overrun

I would hazard a guess that the printer is connected via the serial interface.....
If this is the case you either have a problem with you serial interface settings or the serial cable pin configuration does not match the printers serial interface pin configuration..

I would recommend printing a MENU print on the MT661 and check the serial interface settings these NEED TO MATCH THE HOST SYSTEM

To print a menu print.

  • Put the printer OFFLINE
  • Press MODE
  • Press the DOWN ARROW to HELP
  • Press ENTER
A menu print will be printed look for things like Protocol, Baud Rate, Data Bits, Stop Bits etc
These need to be set to match the host computer system.

Cannot see WD 120 GB in my Computer

Sounds like the USB interface is working, but the physical drive is not. Remove the drive from it's external case, and try a different hard drive. If that works, your drive is the problem. If it still doesn't work, the USB to IDE interface is the issue.

Try mounting the original IDE drive internally, and see if you can read it there. If not, you'll need to send it to a data recovery center.
