Question about Kenmore Progressive Bagless Upright with Inteli-Clean SystemVacuum

Open Question

Hi.My model 116 36933502 only works as suction hose. When I use the bottom, a loud "flapping" noise and no suction. Everything is clean. Seems like a broken diphragm or filter? Sears Kenmore Progressive Bagless Intelliclean 5 years. Thanks Kate

SOURCE: Dirt Devil Vibe No Suction

Sounds like there is a clog somwhere. Check the hose - you can undo the hose with a screwdriver but because of that bend use a pipe cleaner or a long wire to see if there is anything blocking the tube. Next check the dirt channels from the bottom of the hose on the Dirt Devil Vibe once the hose has been taken off. Check that the bottom part is clear and then tip the machine over, remove the bottom sole plate (4 screws, 2 at the front and 2 at the back near the rear wheels) to check the roller brush - sometimes if there is an obstruction in the dirt channel from the roller brush suction will not get through.

Dont forget however that there are two filters on the Dirt Devil Vibe. The top filter has to be unscrewed and then unlocked. Tap it a couple of times to dislodge any dirt and then lift out the second part filter at the top of the bin.

Dont forget to rate if this advice works. Thanks.

SOURCE: my kenmore beltless upright canister vaccuum doesn't spin anymore

Ensure the agitator is not bound up and can be moved manually by hand in both directions. Clean any string or binding material if you find it. Press the reset button on the top of the chassis. If it clicks, then you should try turning it on and see if the agitator spins. If it doesn't spin, I have had luck giving a sharp kick to the top of the chassis.

SOURCE: Loud noise from Kenmore Progressive Bagless Inteli-Clean

Here is a possible solution. If the vacuum sounds normal when the green light comes on, then the issue is a suction bypass. Kenmore built a suction bypass in to help cool down and protect the motor should someone either never clean the filter, empty the canister or somehow manage to clog the hose. There is a spring holding the bypass closed and is overridden by vacuum suction. I guess the spring becomes weak, allowing high suction to pull it open which in turn reduces suction so it closes again. It can do this several times per second making a loud racket and slightly affecting performance until the sensor goes green, then the vacuum suction is too low to overcome the spring tension thus why it sounds fine then. The trick? The very hard way (what I did) was to open the vacuum, open the casing where the spring is and pull it apart slightly to increase the spring tension. The easy way is to put tape over the hole where the bypass is. The inlet is under the hose track on the back on the right side as you're looking at it. The hole is about the size of a quarter and you'll see fins across the hole. The tape would keep the suction. The motor would still pull back the bypass but since tape is applied, there would be nothing to reduce the suction thus keeping performance and reducing the noise. However, this circumvents the intended design so you do so only at your own risk.

No suction for Kenmore upright vacuum

You have not stated which model vacuum you have. Bipass vacuum have a bipass compartment which is under drive unit. Make sure there are no cracks around housing as this is where you vacuume is created. In order to have vacuum you must have airflow, in assences suction. No air flow, no suction. If the airflow is deverted somehow suction will stop. Your filter, your bag are all sources of air flow. Clog either and you lose suction. Start with loss of air, being cracks in housing, bag or filter

Hoover windtinnel suction problem

the intake hos at the bottom might be clogged.first take all the filters out and disconnect the hos completely from the vacuum, then check and see if you have suction.the intake hose is the clear looking one at the bottom that wrapps itself up from the base to the backside of the upright.you can use a coat hanger to push out the clog if there is one just bend the tip till its rounded.work it down into the intake hose from the back.after removing the hose and the filters you should have suction.just make sure all the filters get cleaned .you can blow out the hose with a garden hose

There should be a bottom plate covering the brush roll that you can remove, if you can't dig out the what is in there, try using your hose and suck it out from the bottom, maybe you will be able to get it out.
