Question about RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8100

Broken Backlight on a Blackberry

I am on business in Mexico for another year and the Blackberry that I received from Telcel worked for three months, at which time the backlight stopped working. I was told it was because I allowed moisture to get into the phone, but I have had smart phones ever since the samsung i300, and have never gotten water into any phone, and don't think that I did this time. Whatever, I am using a small maglight to light up the screen when I absolutely need it.

Is there any reasonably inexpensive way of fixing this, or should I just write it off?
Thank you, Preston Hollander

The same happened to me when I dropped my phone in my briefcase. It actually still had audio, as it rang when calls came in. However, the rest of the phone was useless. You will need to replace the entire unit, unfortunately.

Try a firmware update on your blackberry. I do not know which country you are in which service provider you are with so please check carefully when going through step 2.

Check below steps for OS upgrade -

Step #1
Before starting make sure that BlackBerry Desktop Software is installed on the computer.

Step#2
Make sure that you have installed updated device software installed in your PC. Check this link to get update device software from carrier OS download site.

Step#3

Users can perform a full or selective backup of the data using the Backup and Restore tool in BlackBerry Desktop Manager by completing the following steps:

  1. Connect the BlackBerry device to the computer running BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  3. Double-click Backup and Restore.
  4. Select Backup to perform a full backup or select Advanced to perform a backup of specific databases.
  5. Choose a location to save the backup file, then click Save.
Step#4
To perform a clean install of the BlackBerry Device Software, perform the following steps:
  1. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer and open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. Double-click the Application Loader icon.
  3. Click Next to start the installation process.
  4. Type your BlackBerry smartphone password, if prompted, and click OK.
  5. Click the check boxes next to the names of the applications you want to load, and then click Next.
  6. Click Advanced, and then click the check box beside Erase all currently installed applications.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Click the check box next to Do not automatically backup the application data during the loading process.
  9. Clear the box next to Backup and restore applications installed wirelessly.
  10. Click Next > Finish.
  11. When the process has completed, the message The loading operation was successful will appear. Click Close to return to BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

I am going abroad and I want to turn off receiving emails to my blackberry pearl while I am away. I only want to make calls and receive texts. How do I deactivate the email application?

Hello.

First, contact your provider and discuss International calling with them. Then, before arriving, turn off data services, so you will not have the expensive costs for data access, including email. For my provider (Verizon), there was a cost to send and receive texts, so be certain of the costs before traveling.

I recently traveled to Mexico from the US, so I evaluated all of the costs for my Blackberry.

Hope this helps.

RIM Messages

You have to uninstall your desktop manager from your computer again. Then on your phone, go to settings, options, advanced options, service books. You should see some "desktop" service books there. Delete all the service books with "desktop" in the name. Then reinstall the desktop manager and make sure you choose the option for "personal" email and not business email-even if it is business email. The phone is trying to communicate with an enterprise server and you obviously don't use one.

Blackberry regularly wipes clean call log and sms

I was thinking that you have Corporate IT security on your phone and it resets your logs. However since you said you got it new from a reputable place, I am kind of puzzled. Any solution to fix this issue involves a lot of work to either reflash your phone or remove the IT. It would be best to replace it at the Store if that option is available to you
