I have the same problem too. I don't know why this happened. Is there any possible solution? Mine is not on the list for the warranty service.

1 long and 2 short generally mean a video card problem.
I don't understand why HP did not tell you of inherent problems with certain model HP and Compaq Laptops.

Acer 5742g Beep at boot up

I have a problem that looks like this one.

At boot up, after the POST, each time the HDD led blinks, the laptop produces a loud "beep", and refuses to boot, as if this phenomenon prevented the HDD to be read.

If I press the power button, it stops beeping. When I release it, it starts beeping again.

If I press F8 at the beginning and then ask for a normal boot, It boots normally. Anyway, in windows, I have some strange activity, like I would continually pressing Alt+Tab. If I press Esc, it stops immediately and then all seems to work fine.

Any clue?

System not booting

Try power cycling the laptop by taking the battery out and pressing the power button 10 times. On the 10th time, hold it down for 10 seconds. Put the battery back in and attempt to boot the laptop.

If that doesn't work, listen for a cooling fan when you attempt to boot the laptop. If you don't hear the fan, it's likely that the motherboard is malfunctioning somewhere.

Do you hear any beep codes when you try to turn it on? Here is a list of beep codes for reference:

No Beeps: Short, No power, Bad CPU/MB, Loose Peripherals
One Beep: Everything is normal and Computer POSTed fine
Two Beeps: POST/CMOS Error
One Long Beep, One Short Beep: Motherboard Problem
One Long Beep, Two Short Beeps: Video Problem
One Long Beep, Three Short Beeps: Video Problem
Three Long Beeps: Keyboard Error
Repeated Long Beeps: Memory Error
Continuous Hi-Lo Beeps: CPU Overheating
Hope this helps! Good luck!

The beeps are error codes there should be a system what it sounds like is 3 beeps then a pause and it starts again. go to www.support.hp.com and click on drivers and downloads then type in your model number and download the manuals there will be a chart stating what the beep code means if you have a warranty go to the liive chat and just have there technicians tell you what it means to save time then repair the error

HP Pavilion notebook Model No DV2224EA Product No RY395EA. On pressing the start button almost immediately there is a long beep followed by two short beeps. The computer than seems to stop functioning. ...

this doesnt mean that it's the motherboard, you could have other hardware probems that the beeps refer to depending on bios version, sometimes pressing F1 continues the boot, if so then the time and date should be checked, if wrong, then it's a cmos battery replacement thats needed, this beep can refer to also the graphics or the memory, so if you are able to locate the memory bay, remove and reseat the memory and try again
