Question about Jenn-Air JBL2086HES Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Freezer is working hard and strong and bottom part of fridge is cool. As i understand the freezer feeds the air to the fridge?? Is there a fuse for the fan or if the fan calves it means a new fan motor? i believe the fan is the issue!

You can test the fan by seeing if there is voltage getting to it when it's supposed to be running. With the compressor running the fan should run. If there is no voltage getting to the fan the electronic control could be bad. Unplug the fan and test the socket it plugs to.

Domestic fridge bottom won't cool but freezer still freezes, what may be the problem?

The freezer feeds cold air into the refrigerator section to provide cooling. Make sure that the freezer evaporator fan is operational as well as the baffle (trapdoor) that feeds the refrig section.

Frigidaire Refrigerator is warm on top of the frig and freezer but fine on bottom.

Remove the rear lower panel on the unit check to see if the compressor is hot or if its running, should feel the vibration, also listen for any clicking noises.

Fridge not cooling

Hi,

Your description is quite complete but is rather baffling. Pls bear with me while we process by elimination. A few basic/working ideas:
  • most designs call for a single compressor to cool the freezer;
  • the cold air in the freezer is drawn towards the fridge to cool that area;
  • this is performed by a fan drawing air in the freezer through the evaporator;
  • most would have a vent or air pathway to guide the freezer air;
  • all would have thermostatic control to set the desired temperature;
  • some designs have two thermostatic control , 1 for the freezer, 1 for the fridge.
As applied to your concern:
  • compressor is working since freezer is OK;
  • fan is working as you posted but is the air drawn from the freezer, better still, is the air forced/vented into the fridge?
  • could you please check that the air is strongly blown into the fridge area;
  • a little experiment, open the fridge door, look for and press on the door switch, the light should go out, after a lengthy seconds, the fan should trigger on, not only would it be audible, you would notice the frozen air swirling inside the fridge area. If you hold on long enough to the dorr switch, the compressor should kick in (if it is not already running) since the thermostat of the fridge area (if one is present) would sense that the fan is turning but the fridge area is not cooling.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Refrigerator portion on top does have cooling but freezer on bottom works fine. I have read that the cooling all happens in the bottom and a fan transfers cool air to the the top.

if the fridge part is cool and freezer is fine what problem are you having?is the fridge not cold enough? a common problem with bottom mount freezers is the freezer door doesn't get closed all the way,warm air enters the freezer mixes with the zero degree air and freezes up the air ducts,when you open the freezer door you should hear the fan blowing,if it is check the ceiling in the freezer to see if ice is on it,check the packages for frozen water droplets and stick your hand in the fridge where the air ducts are to see if you can feel cold air blowing into the fridge,if you can't feel air blowing into the fridge,unplug it,open the freezer door,remove the top basket and remove all the food out of the bottom basket,with a hair dryer blow into the back wall into the vent holes and melt out all the ice in the ducts,you'll see water dripping down through the vent holes,when the water stops dripping plug it back in and see if the fan is blowing the air into the fridge.also you can remove the bottom kickplate and you should see a tech sheet in it,read it and it will tell you how to put the machine into defrost,it will stay in defrost for like 20 minutes,you can do this instead of unplugging it, there's a heater that comes on behind the back panel in the freezer,this can help you melt out the ice but if it seems to hard to do just unplug it.

Fridge wont cool.

Refrigerators draw air from the freezer to cool them. There are several possibilities. First check to see if you need to defrost the freezer, this can cause a blockage stopping the air to the refrigerator also make sure that there is nothing blocking the air flow in the refrigerator.
You can set the freezer colder and turn up the refrigerator setting dial.
If these don't work it could be the fan that is supposed to circulate the air to the refrigerator is not working. The door switch for the light often turns the fan off while the refrigerator door is open.
If the freezer is all the way up and items in the freezer aren't frozen hard then you most likely need you system recharged or there may be something wrong with the compressor.

Bottom Freezer

This is the way it is supposed to work. Modern refregerators are designed to keep the freezer temp between 0 - 10 degrees. As long as it is not freezing food in the refrigerator compartment all is well. On most units the only real cooling control is in the refregerator. This is the one the cycles the compressor. The freezer control usually only controls the amount of cold air allowed into the fridge. All cooling coils are usually in the freezer. it just pushes cold air into the fridge

Fridge and Freezer losing cooling

we bought a f&p fridge freezer and in summer noticed it wasn't cooling and the freezer wasn't freezing, when the service guy came out he noticed our ducted air con was blowing onto the fridge, once we had redirected the air con outlet the fridge started working as normal, apparently f&p's work on air being convected around the cabinet of the fridge and air blowing on the fridge can effect the temperature of the convected air. hope this helps you or someone
