Ipod 80g problem

My 80g ipod will not be recognized by the computer when we plug it in. It is as if nothing got plugged into the USB. I have toggled the hold switch, reset it. Also, let the battery go dead on purpose to see if that would reset it. HELP!

Thanks. I have used three different computers and three different cords, one of the cords is probably bad. But unlikely all three. But that is a possibility, I will try to use/borrow another cord from someone else. I think these cords damage easily, so that might be a possibility. What makes the computer not recognize it?

If noting happens on the ipod and on the pc when you connect the usb cable then the ipods connector is probably bad.

try reformatting it... if that doesnt work go to control panel, make sure your in classic view, click system, hardware tab, device manager,
Scroll down to the Universal Serial Bus Controllers Expand the tree Right click on one of the displayed usb root hubs, click properties / power management tab then de-select "Allow the computer to shut this device off to save power." then reboot... give that a wing and see if that helps

b> IPods are the most popular MP3 player used. The Apple product is compatible with Mac computers and PCs as long as the appropriate programs are used. In order for an iPod to be used, it must be recognized by your computer. At times you may need to do a bit of troubleshooting, but overall, this is an easy task when these steps are followed.

Download iTunes from Apple for free. ITunes is the program needed to use an iPod. The download is safe and will not give your computer a virus. Plug the white connector cord that came with your iPod into the iPod and into the USB drive on your computer. Open iTunes if it does not automatically open when you plug the iPod into your computer. ITunes should automatically recognize your iPod. Unplug your iPod from the computer. Move the toggle reset button at the top to "hold" three times. Then hold the center button and play button to restart the iPod. Repeat steps one through four. If iTunes does not recognize your iPod, unplug the iPod from your computer. Let the battery die. Charge the iPod and plug it into your computer. The computer should recognize the iPod.

Ipod won't turn on

It may be that the battery has drained to such a low level that it is only barely charged. What I would do is leave it for a couple of hours charging using the apple usb cable supplied (if you have still got it) and also if you are using a usb hub plug it directly in the computer usb port. Hope this helps, if not send me a comment.

My 30G 5th Generation pod is totally dead and will not charge even with a new battery

  1. Toggle the Hold switch. To do this, slide the switch to Hold (an orange bar appears) and then slide it back (orange bar is hidden).
  2. Reset the iPod by holding down the Menu and Center buttons for 10 seconds.

If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect the iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If the iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.

If the Apple logo does not appear or the iPod is not seen in iTunes, connect the iPod to a power source by either plugging it into an Apple iPod USB Power Adapter or directly into a computer's USB port.

  3. Let the iPod charge for at least 20 minutes. Note: If the iPod is connected to a computer, make sure the computer is not set to sleep, standby, or hibernate.
  4. After the iPod has charged for at least 20 minutes and while it is still connected to the power source, toggle the Hold switch again as in step 1.
  5. Try resetting the iPod by holding down the Menu and Center buttons for 10 seconds.

If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect the iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If the iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.

If the Apple logo does not appear or the iPod is not seen in iTunes, the iPod should be serviced.
