Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

Two of my DVC Pros will not put out SD SDI video when in playback mode except for tapes recorded on the machine itself. HD is fine and the SD shows when tape is stopped and machine is in EE. Checked the munu and it is set for 1080i input and 1080i HD output and 480i SD output. How do I overcome this problem

Just so you know I am a mobile television broadcast engineer on a High definition television truck. My shop sent me a second machine and after installation it exhibited the same problem so we put our original back in the rack. We have the manual but it says nothing about the problem and since it is the weekend (we are covering the Mets, Pirates series in Pittsburgh) the internet is the only option until Monday. Thanks for the advice though

I am a mobile broadcast engineer working on a High Definition television truck in Pittsburgh. We put in a replacement machine on Saturday and it exhibited the same problem. We downloaded a manual, but it does not over the problem. Today(Sunday ) is the last game and we are back in New York on Tues for another Series (Mets).

Without knowing the model numbers I can not state for sure, but there is a difference between playing back an SD tape and "converting" an HD signal into an SD one. Few machines will provide that conversion. Most have teh capability of playing/recording an SD tape. Can you please update this with the model numbers?

Thanks,
Dan

Hi. if it is set to 480i SD output, and HD output works, in theory there should be no problem in playing SD.

Try resetting the unit by usual disconnecting power ten minute. Do the same with TV. Test a different connection (eg.compnent cables). If the unit does not send SD output the only thing I can think is a possible firmware problem. I suggest calling manufacturer and asking for a firmware/software update for the unit.

    Hi.

What if you connect using component cables? do you have signal in SD on that output? Problem is quite unusual, I will see if I can come out with a better idea.

Well our existing cable harness doesn't have component cables in it, we carry 10 machines (not all the same) and the component output is analog. there are three SD SDI outputs the third being the time code burn which does show minus the video. We are stumped on this one. We have over 40 years experience between the two of us and a team of experts back at our shop but so far no answers so thanks for helping. We pull out tonight and head back to New York for Tuesday.

The playback head is dirty. Insert a brand new tape into the drive and perform a record, through the entire tape until it reaches the end. Then play a pre-recorded tape.

Hi,
Try to playback with other tape recorded earlier from other camera or VTR .If other tapes are palying properly without any glitches then it might be the problem with this recording.

Panasonic HVX200 will not play back tape

Your playback heads might be clogged. I am not sure if this camera with give you a RF warning if your record heads get clogged. Also most professional machines drums are rated at 1000 - 1500 hours before they need to be replaced. If you are at 500 and never cleaned the heads it is time to. Run a cleaning tape a few times.

Canon xl2 playback

I DON'T THINK YOU HAVE A PROBLEM EXCEPT TRYING TO USE A GENERIC TAPE TO RECORD IN HD AND THEN EXPECTING IT TO PLAYBACK IN HD. IT WASN'T MADE FOR THAT AND WON'T WORK FOR HD. IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE A HD CAMERA, YOU NEED TO USE THE CORRECT HD TAPES TO EXPECT THEM TO WORK AND PLAYBACK CORRECTLY. WHY WOULD YOU BUY ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE CAMERAS ON THE MARKET AND THEN USE A $2.00 TAPE AND TRY TO PLAY IT ON A $2000.00 CAMERA AND WONDER WHY IT DOESN'T WORK? BUY GOOD QUALITY TAPES.

try a head cleaning tape. the blue screen is what is displayed when the heads are too dirty to read the information on the tape. if the head cleaning tape doesn't solve it, a hand cleaning should do the job.
